I came across this: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2721139/Very-easy-rider-Now-Google-plans-driverless-robot-motorbike-wants-permission-start-testing-road.html

They are said have clocked up about 1.2million kilometres of driving time on California roads... I want to know how good they are at avoiding collisions when a car pulls in front of them.

The cars have clocked up 1.2 million km, not the bikes. They're applying to start testing the bikes. Seems daft to have a motorbike that rides by its self to me. Would it be able to filter and use the acceleration that a bike has? If not, may as well just get a car.

Presumably, the riderless bikes will be just as good at that as the driverless cars are.

My bad, just read it again. I highly doubt they'll be able to filter, I think these bikes would be very dangerous actually, I imagine terrible things happening.

Basically, there's a few members who think I'm impersonating a banned account, then I was engaged in a "karma war" with them. I think this is my penalty for that war.

Well I guess one could say that hehe. At the time I didn't even know there were moderators I could report it to. It wasn't until I got a PM from G.

There are a few advantages of bikes.

If you start from a position where you can trust the thing not to crash and kill you, then it would be quite enjoyable - like going pillion with someone you trust.

You could achieve very low fuel burn/energy consumption assuming the vehicle has been designed with that in mind. Would be a relaxing bimble.

The problem is trusting the thing. That's a good 20 years away.

You won't be having a go, they're going to be "riderless", or is that "pointless"? Confused

Hope they've got some self righting techonology because without it every, feral, chavbrat is going to enjoy pushing them over. Rolling Eyes

Being designed by Boston Dynamics, who made some pretty incredible things about 5 years ago.

Youtube them for some of their kit. It's mainly military stuff, but I'm sure a riderless bike would be easy for them.

I think they should be equipped with turrets that fire beanbag rounds so that this doesn't happen. Their secondary defence system should be a megaphone telling them to back away... Being shot at first, then warned is logical in every way Smile

There should be an "I feel lucky" button which takes you to somewhere not entirely unlike where you wanted to go, but not actually the right place Laughing

I doubt they would be able to filter as good as I can Laughing

I think a very good point of future self drive drone cars/bikes would be being able to get picked up/dropped off by your own vehicle, no need for parking just send the bike/car home or to a near by car park. Again going out on the town, get dropped off and send the car home Smile To sell us them there needs to be a reason why we cant live without it.

Google are slowly but surely taking over the world, they have access to my phone and everything I use it for, chromebook and everything I search on it and TV thats run on android and has a chrome cast plugged in, next it will be my house (google nest) and car.

What I would like someone (Google) to do is make an motorcycle that can't be nick or is useless if it is nicked or will that be thrown in as part of the self drive sales pitch

What happens when it wants to stop? Stabilisers? Or does driverless just mean you sit on the thing but don't have to operate the controls? Meh, I don't see the point. Cars yes, but not bikes. If you want to be separated from the whole experience then go in a driver less car, but I see bikes as recreational transport so not really much point in taking the control out of it.

Maybe make a few for the disabled. Would be nice having your own Johnny cab though for nights out on the sauce.

I was assuming that it would be stabilised by a gyroscope, keeping it upright in the same way as a segway

If a motorcycle falls in the forest and there is no one there to ride it... Does it make a sound?

I assume they mean that they need not be steered manually? Riderless seems a bit pointless. Who would enjoy it then? Besides the nerd who made it...

If the driverless cars have a manual override of any description, or respond to any manual inputs at all, I'd imagine that you'd still have to be sober to be the sole occupant.
