So I had to get rid of the gsxr after finding yet more problems... Would of cost more than its worth to be fixed.

I don't fancy loosing my NCB so is it worth purchasing a scooter frame with V5, HPI clear and insure that?

Only thing I am thinking is that the insurance may check MOT and tax?!

Thoughts?

I'm thinking SORN sorts out MOT and tax. I'm lucky and have a dual bike policy (as I have two bikes). One is on SORN, both are actually insured (as far as I know Rolling Eyes ). Can't see it'd be different for single bike.

In the past I've been honest and declared SORN on a bike when it's failed it's MOT so I couldn't get the tax. Insurance left running (it had fire and theft cover, so IMO valid even if bike parked) and then just got it through the MOT and bought tax online.

Other thought is a NCB is valid for at least two years (maybe three, check with your insurer issuing it). II can't remember what my insurer told me when I had a scooter on another policy (so it's own NCB).

It's more to get my 2 years as my policy expires in December and if I cancel it now I will loose the 8 months accrued!

check with the insurance company if they will continue to cover the bike whilst SORN. i vaguely remember someone on Pistonheads having an issue with it and having to get different insurance for a car that was off the road for a prolonged period.

Hmmm, if you transfer your policy to a new bike/scooter that might reset the date counter as it may be a new policy, you'll have to check that one.

Do insurance company know bike on current policy sold/scrapped? There has been threads on here before about letting insurance policy run after bike sold/scrapped, maybe they'll help?

I enquired about 'garage' insurance policy. I was told don't do any more. Due to this continuous insurance/SORN faff (that has also killed the buying day(s) insurance to ride home when buying a bike or to ride to MOT). Maybe someone does, but I couldn't find. Please post the broker/insurer name if you have success.

I knew someone who SORNed his landrover after it failed mot
Fixed it, sorted it, drove to MOT and tried to tax it online (exempt but still have to apply) to be told he had no insurance.

Insurance company had found that it was SORNed and cancelled his policy without telling him.

Was fully comp, their reason for cancelation was "we don't insure vehicles for off the road use"
