I am quite proud of my eyesight as I have been told it is far better than most peoples'.

However, recently - since getting a job that involves staring at a computer screen most of the day - I have begun to notice my eyes feeling a bit funny. Sometimes when I look away from the screen at an object a few metres away, it feels as though my eyes are being slightly 'squeezed'. When I look back at the screen the feeling goes away.

What ways are there to combat this computer-screen-induced eyesight deterioration? My boss is already fat and short sighted (and has a small cock I recently discovered) so I doubt he'll have much sympathy for me if I try and take more break time to rest my eyes.

Isn't there a 20 - 20 rule... every 20 minutes look at something in the distance for 20 seconds? Let your eye muscles stretch out of screen mode by adjusting to looking at something further away.

A proper break is even better, if you can go for a walk or outside as that'll help the rest of your body too instead of being trapped at your computer all day. You have your eyes forever, but you won't be working for Mr Chipolata forever so look after yourself.

Benno are you nearing 40? apparently even people with 20/20 vision start to experience long sightedness around this age. I

I blamed the computer when it happened to me but was told its what happens Sad

You are entitled to have a break away from the computer regularly throughout the day though, cant remember the intervals though and any boss who tells you not to is ignoring the H&S rules. You are also entitled to free eye tests and help towards the costs of glasses if you are spending a lot of time at a computer for your job.

yeah I have this ... optician told me it was my mid distance vision.. you get glasses for it ... usually bifocals ... but I couldn`t get away with them ... found that old readin glasses which are a weaker prescription; than the ones I have to use now; work well.

I had brilliant vision until about three years ago when working with very small fonts on documents for work. Got myself some spectacles and my vision is now so poor I can't even read newspaper headlines.

Glasses give you poor vision.

Start with exercises you can do at your desk. Google them and find a set online ( Laughing lolz at own irony ) ... then you can do them at your desk, so he doesn't know.

Obvs try not to roll your eyes in his direction, maybe swing round in your chair when you have to roll them that way ... else he will think you still have the hots for him, and will have another go with that small penis of his.

Have you had your eyes tested recently, i found i was getting headaches at work (IT, 8+ hrs a day infront of a computer)

I had my eyes tested and they told me i needed glasses for working on the computer, as is was something daft like +0.25 and was causing eye strain.

check boots or specsavers they usually have offers for cheap eye tests

Turn the brightness down on the monitor.
Have a plain black background on the desktop.

It will stop your eyes from burning, and will help prevent eyestrain

This is a very good tip. I started doing it a few years ago and it helps a lot.

I'm an IT worker and have been for over 15 years, my eyesight is still 20/20. So for me at least using computers has had no effect on my vision.

I have a full medical on Tuesday actually and I'm quite worried. Everything is going to be tested including eyesight.

My hearing I am also worried about, from shooting guns without ear protection and from riding the motorcycle. I sometimes get ringing noises in my ears when it's quiet.

I really don't want to wear glasses Sad

Do these things really help?
I also downloaded a program called f.lux which apparently helps by changing the display hue according to the time of day it is.

Assuming you mean your ears Smile

If you don't already, start using earplugs when on the bike.

I ignored the occasional ringing in my ears and now regret it.

The ringing would stop after a period of time (maybe 30 mins to a couple of hours) and then one day it didn't and it's hello tinnitus.

Do you wear the earplugs on your daily commute? My commute is only 15-20 minutes and it's through central London so it's not like it gets crazy loud.

Sometimes I listen to music which is probably a bad idea too.

And yes, I did mean my ears, whoops Laughing

I now wear earplugs even on the shortest trip.
