Passing the MOD2: what are your best tips?

Yeah as the thread title says really, what is the best/easiest way of passing it first time so it doesn't need doing ever again? I've been told the hardest part is the MOD1, after that it's just road sense and being a careful rider that the examiner has no trouble passing.

I ask because I have my MOD2 booked on a cancellation slot next week. I'll be training the day before rather than there being a gap, an advantage, and the test is fairly early morning so another advantage (don't spend ages worrying about it and the possibility of being stuck in traffic using up valuable minutes of the test). Unlike the theory and MOD1 I want to nail this first time, not third!

Ride round the area so there are no surprises. There was a hidden nsl sign i would have missed had ny instructor not shown me it. Otherwise just relax, my examiner wasnt out to get me, he was actually a really sound bloke who finished off my answer to one of the questions he asked me.

I actually thought MOD 1 was easier passed both 1st time though.

Just watch out for the little things, a missed check may not seem much but rack up a few and it becomes a fail.

You'll get shown the routes on your day of training just listen to your instructor and don't think you know better.

Dress accordingly a hi viz bomber jacket/bib ought to do it just look like a safety concious faggot like the examiner.

Make 'life savers' obvious.

Make mirror checks obvious.

As above if you're confident and can ride in a safe manner you will have no problem passing I found it easy - I've never had any lessons and I've got a problem with authority though I passed.

Also I personally found MOD 1 easier when taking the bullshit MOD 2 there's more to go wrong wankers in cars for example.

Just ride it like you normally would, don't ride like a granny because you think the examiner is looking for every single mistake you make, he/she is also looking for someone to keep up with the flow of traffic (within speed limits of course). When you do the test just pretend or do your best to imagine the examiner is not there following you, it made me feel more at ease.

If you make a mistake just move on, don't dwell or think on it. Yes the examiner is looking for the safety points/procedures like lifesavers etc, but he is also looking for someone who is capable of riding through an area on a big bike on their own.

No good dwelling on the points raised already as they help.... Good luck anyway when you take the test.

I passed mod 2 on 2nd attempt. First time I failed for not riding quick enough basically as I was unsure of the speed limit in a certain area.

So pay extra close attention to signs and road markings.

A lad failed his who was with me on my first attempt for riding too closely to cars in front and for speeding. The same lad failed again when I passed 2nd time for not doing enough shoulder checks.

We had a different examiner that 2nd time round and he was hot on checks whereas the first guy wasn't so much. As the lad had his before me and failed because of checks my instructor advised me to do more when sat at traffic lights & junctions before moving off - which we hadn't really been taught to do - only mirror checks. So was pretty unlucky for the lad but a heads-up for me. So it doesn't hurt to throw in lots of checks too.

If you take the wrong lane or go the wrong way just carry on or switch back safely and correctly.

Knowing the area already is a really good advantage also.

Its all all about observation! Soon as your on a new road assess everything, check for 20 zones, zebra crossings, lights and all that.

I think what really stumps me, and it has been pointed out as a weakness, is doing all the checks at roundabouts. Look at every junction then both shoulder check behind you before pulling away, I usually end up missing one or being so fixated on the checks I mess up the indicators. It's nothing like you'd tend to ride in real life, you'd get a neck ache if you rode to test standard I swear.

I suffered with nerves really bad so I pretended that it was another instructor standing in. Also when you find your mind wandering "what if I pass/fail" consciously stop yourself doing it as you will miss something on the road that could be crucial, and relax and enjoy it. It's probably going to be the most expensive 40 minute bike ride of your life!

1. Chill the f**k out. 99% of it is the luck of the draw.
2. Enjoy the ride.
3. Answer every instruction your examiner gives you with "Eye eye Captain!"
4. Sing a nautical themed song such as the theme tune to Captain Pugwash every time something goes wrong.
5. Do everything right and pass.

Note: Nautical theme is vital to passing.

I actually thought I had failed. He says pull up safely on the left behind a parked car, I have a split second of panic and assume it's because I've done something stupid and not realised. Obviously it then dawned on me that pulling away is part of it, but I did the last 30+ minutes of the test thinking I'd failed and the stress was basically gone. All the points I'd need to tighten up were firm but fair, like indicating too early and not always being sharp with road signs.
