Been looking at these recently as I'm thinking about upgrading to a litre bike. I personally think they look great and they have decent goodies like a slipper clutch etc. But all the reviews i read say about how flat they are at the bottom end.

Are they really that bad? Is there anything you can do to improve it,the one in particular I've got my eye on has been de-cated. So I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not to bottom end power.

What has made you go for the R1?

Have you checked out the other models? Specifically the 05 ZX10R or the 06 GSXR1000?

Both too good... far too good.

Never had any experience on a new R1, but I'm sure it only improved from the 01 model I had. That was stonking.

fit and finish isnt as good as the r1 of same year.

I just love the look of the thing. I hear you about the k5/6 Gixxer all the reviews do seem to point to that being the bench mark super bike.
I just don't find it sexy enough.

Judging only by the look the 2008 R1 is very nice.. but like said above there are better bikes from the same era and for less money.

Saying that, I did not pick "the best" litre bike for the money, but it was my choice and I'm happy with it. So buy what will make you happy.

Power delivery of a soggy flapjack. Far too linear for entertaining purposes Sad

I initially wanted an 06/07 Blade but no dealers near me have got one. Gotta be a dealer as I'm probably going to have to part ex the Kwaka as i can't sell it for love nor money.

All this talk of them being too flat low down etc is a load of pish, like us mere mortals are going to notice on the road.

Get the best and newest you can afford to buy, unless you've got a real desire for something a bit older.

I'd even consider a k3/4 gsxr thou as they are the muts nuts, real good litre bike to start on with roughly 150 odd rwhp, mine had 154 and was a real pleasure to ride, great low down torque and plenty power throughout the range with a ATRE fitted.

The 08 R1 looks the muts nuts, they all look good.

How about an early 10r?The later ones can be had for a pretty penny, some are not so keen on the looks of them with the arse end and those cans but they are a real treat to ride, power is spot on and the handling is sublime......real good bikes, can't fault kawasaki.

You'd be taking the older, less good one. 05/06 is where it is at. Thumbs Up
