I was filtering past stationary traffic at around 15mph when a pedestrian ran out from between two of the cars in the queue. I hit the brakes and veered slightly to my right, but the side of my tyre, my handlebar and my wing mirror clipped him. I flipped my visor and said "Fucking hell Mate, are you alright?" but he just stared at me then ran off. I obviously assume he's fine, albeit probably quite sore, but do I need to report this to the Police? I've tried looking it up, but nothing specific is mentioned about if an injured party just leaves. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Streetview and the time honoured, traditional BCF piss poor MSPaint drawing for those of you that care

I think personally I would report it to the police and my insurers, just to cover my own back legally. I'm assuming you were riding totally legally?

If you do report it and said pedestrian drops dead from a heart attack five minutes later, or decides to shaft you with a personal injury claim, your case as the innocent party is bound to be stronger.

I had the same happen to me at Clapham Junction a few month ago. Some dissy bint was running for the bus did not look, I emergency stopped and she still ran in to the side of me landing in a pile of wobbling flab on the floor. I asked if she was OK but she got up and limped on to the bus.

I never heard anything and she had left the scene before me, zero fucks were given and have not heard anything since.

I'd forget about it and never ever inform my insurers unless I was quadraspazzed. Telling insurers ANYTHING that will likely never result to anything happening is just playing into their hands.

Those were my thoughts Andy, and yes, I'm totally legal. Never even considered the insurers, would just reporting it affect my insurance at renewal or anything like that though?

As above, wouldn't say a word to anyone, ever.

I hit a pedestrian who ran into the road once, 2 up with the rear wheel off the floor through severely hard braking.

Nothing came of it, I'd live by the same rule regardless unless they fell to the floor.

It is my unofficial understanding that if an ambulance is involved, then the police will want to know.

I knocked someone over on my moped some years ago.

When I got back from the police station to report it, the phone rang and it was my parents. They had a policeman sat in their kitchen who had come do do me for failure to stop and report (the moped was registered at their address). Some interfering busy-body had seen the incident and called the police with my registration number.

I was able to quickly and easily fuck them off by quoting an incident report number.

Report it to the police, get an incident report number. The person taking the report doesn't give a damn. Then your arse is covered. You may even be able to report it via the non-emergency number rather than directly at the station.

Personally I'd call 101 and just report it, get a reference and forget about it. I definitely wouldn't tell insurance though.

No, it wasn't zig zags. Completely legal filter, he was just not looking (well, he was, but at traffic coming from the opposite direction). I haven't reported it, as far as I'm concerned, I did stop but he was obviously uninjured and chose to leave, that will (hopefully) be the end of it.
