Just read this article on Visor Down on the new BMW S1000 tourer.

Potenitally the same chasis as the S1000RR, 160bhp, okay looks. How do you think it'll hold up against it's rival the Ducati Multistrada?

Not that it needs one.

As per VD, I think its rivals will be the BMW GS and BMW RT.

I would of thought the GS and RT where a whole different ball game. They're pretty much touring bikes through out.

Where as the Multistrada and BMW's new 1000 tourer are more sporty touring bikes with big price tags and sport bike derived engines.

Seems like it would mostly be competing with the K13... a bit pointless?

Stick a Yamaha badge on it, or an Aprilia badge and I wouldn't argue.

Since when did the intended purpose concern the Ewan and Charlie types?

I agree in principle.

In practice, BMW are monstering most other manufacturers so hard that it might be hard to tell whether Ducati lose sales to it. In pure numbers, I imagine most owners who buy this will be trading in other BMWs.

Very loyal tribe, I'm led to understand.

I read somewhere that the majority of people who bought the new Ducati Multistrada,we're buying their first Ducati.

To me it doesn't look like a sports tourer at all. Like the Multistrada it's an adventure bike with a big BHP engine, designed for the road.

Like others have said, it's sales will come at the expense of other BMW's.
