I used to use Aida32 a few years ago for querying the software/hardware in my pc. Haven't had to do it for quite a while so I'm wondering what's the hot app for this kind of thing nowadays?

I use aida64 and open hardware monitor.

aida64 is for 64bit systems? Mine is 32bit

Never used Aida, Always used Belarc which even gives you the license codes. Of course Aida may do this as well.
