Hi all.

Had my Samsung Galaxy S3 for 1 year 11 months now, and can upgrade..

I absolutely loved the phone to begin with, was fine for the first year. Now though it's a complete bag of shit - takes ages to load things, memory card shat itself, battery life is a joke, etc.

The problem is, I still really like samsung stuff. Neutral

No other phones really appeal to me, so looking for people opinions on the S5, Note 3, or wait it out for the Note 4?

I even searched this topic but nothing came up.

I can get the S5 on unlimited data etc for 36 a month. Over 2 years that's = £864.

Half tempted to buy outright & look at giffgaff, but unsure on their plans..

Any input welcome!!

Cheers lads.

Hi mate,

I've got the S5 at the minute, it was sort of an underdog in my choices when changing from the iphone 4s. I was going for the sony Z2 or LG Curve, but when I got to the shop, I gave it a try and found it better than the other two, so I went for it. I'm £38 per month for unlimited everything (5gb data, I see that as unlimited!) On o2. I love the camera and memory on mine. The battery life is awesome (compared to the Iphone at least), and it's proper quick. The only niggle I've had is that my little cover for the charger port snapped off, letting in dust and no longer meaning it's waterproof.

Overall, chuffed with mine and rate it highly. A surprise, as the missus had the S3 and we both hated it!

Try the S3 running Cyanogenmod and see if you like it any better.

If you like the S3 I'm sure you'll love the S5....but worth looking at the other flagship phones. Htc m8,Sony z2 etc ....as for buying one outright then might be worth looking at the pay monthly 3 deals. I pay £13 a month and get unlimited data in 3G or 4G (22 gig a month is not uncommon for me) and 600 mins talk time and can call uk numbers from Europe or the USA with my included 600 mins a month usage for nowt! I gave up on £36 a month for 24 month contracts 18 months ago and I'm much happier about it as None of my "fixed fee" 24 month contracts ever ended up being the same amount at the end of the contract! And now I can chop and change my network as local service improves with only 30 days notice or if you like it will cost me £13 max in lost service if I change networks at the worst time possible! And if I break the phone or it's stolen....then it's already paid for....no £36 a month bill for a phone I no longer own!

This. Mine's been running a version of CM since I got it, some upgrades along the way, still about as fast and usable as the day I got it. Love my S3. See absolutely zero reason to upgrade it until it breaks, and if it breaks would probably just get another one and flash a backup of my current S3 to it using Clockworkrecovery or whatever it's called. Can't see the point of always upgrading phones every year or two, mine's 18 months old and it still does all the shit I need. Camera might be better on the S5 but I don't care, I rarely take pictures/video plus when I do quality isn't much of an issue.

Cheers buddy exactly what I'm after!

Seems to be very mixed reviews online, unsure if the negatives are mostly herp-derps though.

Anyone else used the S5?

And yes, I am on three - best network for me personally.

Not going to bother flashing it etc I'll just get rid once I have a new'un - good suggestion though.

Cheers,
Thumbs Up

Note 4 is out September.

Ive looked at the (rumoured) specs and to be honest I dont think it is really worth the upgrade (and price hike) from a Note 3.

I have a note 2 and the misus has the 3....the 3 is a decent improvement on 2, so worth getting but not sure 4 is as much of a step up from 3. Im getting the Note 4 when it comes out as im due a new phone and cost doesnt bother me as my phone is also my computer etc. I just buy outright and stick a £10 giffgaff goodybag on each month which gives me all the texts/calls/data I could ever need.

If I were you I would wait till Note4 launch and then get a really good deal on the Note3. Sim free the Note4 will be about £550 whereas in october the Note3 will probably be around £299.

For me it had to be the Sony Z1, and would be the Z2 if I was to be making the choice currently, features aside (as you can judge them from any website) it feels to me to be by far the most quality item when compared to almost any other smart phone.

It is a little heavier than most, but it feels really solid, and so far has proven to be unbreakable which is saying something for me, just take a look at my sig!

In terms of waterproofing, I use mine in the bath daily, though it doesn't get submerged most days! Still I've had it properly submerged a ton of times just to prove the waterproofing to several doubters, and also I've used it in a couple of hot tubs for hours on end without issue. (Can't say the same for my friends S5!)

I've got the S5.

Been an Apple Whore, done HTC, dabbled with Samsung and when it was time for upgrade it was basically between the Note 3, S5 and HTC M8.

The screen is insanely pretty and so far I've been very impressed with the quality of the photos.

Battery-wise, generally very impressed. I have days where I tootle about and it barely drops. However I DO have days where it seems to vanish a bit quick but I believe this may be down to something running in the background as opposed to the battery quality itself. On the whole, battery life is very good and I like that you can put it in Ultra Powersave if you REALLY need to conserve it.

The little charger cover IS a bit fiddly, bit it's more of a knack than an irritation. Just be gentle with it until you're used to the little 'wiggle and click' motion as I suspect it probably can come off easily.

Oh and the google voice search is incredibly accurate. Not sure whether this is partially down to me being accent neutral, but I've started using mine all the time now as it's quicker than typing xD

I definitely recommend it, especially if you're already a fan of Samsung and are familiar with how it works.

5 stars from me.

Thanks guys.

Well, the Note 4 has been announced and some reviews online, and I have decided to go with the S5.

Will be going to get it tomorrow. Thumbs Up

My next question is to do with the app store / samsung account.

ATM I run it all through my legit email address, getting apps etc - I have heard this is a silly thing to do for security reasons?

Cheers. Thumbs Up
