Hi,

Just in the process of selling my k6 SV650s. I've had it for just under a year but I really can't get on with it. Not a fan of the way it rides etc. Essentially I'd like to move to an IL4

Once sold I should have a budget of 3k (3.5k at a stretch) for my next bike. Ideally I'd like to go for one of the early 00's 600. Does anyone with any experience of owning them have any recommendations over which is most comfortable? Actual Performance / maint costs aren't such an issue as I won't be riding it "on the limit" etc.....

Currently the most likely option is a GSXR 600 k1/2/3 but I'm open to suggestions?

FYI bike history (have found all comfortable to date): GSXR600SRAD, Bandit 600, 883 Sportster, TL1000R.

Thanks

Alex

My Y model GSXR was superb, so K1 era. Similar 600 should be just as comfy.

Comfort is a very subjective... What suits me might not suit you....

Why has riding on the limit got anything to do with the cost of running?

Thank you for the suggestions, there are a few larger second hand dealers near me so will try and find if they have any I can try sitting on.

Fair point re: comfort being subjective,

The on the edge comment was more related to the actual bike performance, as in not fussed if one has slightly more bhp etc. When all said and done they are each fast enough

thanks again

Newer ZZR600s? They're very similar to ZX6R performance but less sports focussed.

Another vote for the thundercat. Tried all the then-current sports 600s when I was in the market for one in 2004. Thundercat had the best ergos for me at 6"2, best seat and still quick enough to keep up with mates on ninjas and the like. Didn't sound as good as the R6 but comfort was way better, if that's your main criteria.

Since you didn't actually specify sports bike, I would suggest a fazer 600.

Wasn't massively impressed with comfort on the 08 CBR600F I used at BCF BBQ. Might have had a cut down seat however.

Thundercat was comfy but for sports wise, GSXR750Y, so early K models are the best so far.

01 R1 wasn't too bad either Shocked

I can't fault the K4 GSXR 600 - £3.5 grand should get you a decent example. Goes well, rides well and looks great.

ZX6R J1 - A1p (636)
CBR6F4 up to 2005 the suspension became non adjustable for that year.
SRAD barges (only in size not handling)
Thundercats , or Fazers if you like in a very upright position (I don't like the position).

Though tbh they are all mostly the same, adding bits like screens muffs and seats will enhance comfort as will upside down jackup plates.

I second Paddeh's Vote, Not being Biased but the K1 Gsxr are incredibly comfortable for a Sports Bike.

Iv got an Srad aswell which can feel quite cramped after a short while, I'm 6ft5 and Could ride the K1 for hours.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Putting my SV up today and will start trawling round some of the local dealers to see if they have anything suitable I can have a sit on. Will update the thread once I make a purchase,

Thanks again

TT 600 will probably get you the most bang for buck. IMO

Personally I found a 1998 cbr600f small compared to the thundercat, so found the thundercat nicer for me (though maybe this ties in with being more upright?)

No real input, just thought it was worth a mention.

Rate my CBR 600 F1 pretty good for comfort, the later F4 models aren't too bad either from memory of riding my cousins, just more poke from the motor & lighter.

I would say I found them on par with a Thundercat 600 really for performance, handling & comfort, all feel pretty similar except the Cat's brakes are a league above for feel and response.

I went from a K5 SV650S to a ZX6R A1P. I couldn't believe how much more comfortable the Kawasaki is. My knees used to kill after an hour on the SV.

Have you ridden both bikes?, unless you mean in the USA, where the ZZR600 was just an older model ZX6R.

Am sorry but in no way shape or form is a a1p 636 a comfy bike almost killed me when I rode mine from luton to widnes.

I found it comfortable.

How fast were you riding? Once you get above a certain speed the wind on your chest lifts you up slightly and off the bars taking the pressure off your wrists.
