I'm Hoping to pickup a Varadero as an upgrade to my CG, however Bodyguard's Story has me concerned about Varas and front sprockets. (you never know, maybe he has a twin up this way?)
I have never asked permission to crack open a sprocket cover in the past when buying a bike, but it doesn't seem like the worst idea in the world.

TL:DR Would you ever remove covers to check for damage on a purchase?

Yup, have in the past removed fairings to inspect. Found bent rad's and bodges.

I never have, but wouldn't rule it out

However if I was selling I think I'd want cash up front like a test ride if some random guys gonna go to town on my bike with his spanners and screwdrivers.

I take my paddock stands and a friend. Make sure everything moves in the direction it was meant to.

As a seller, I'd welcome it from a serious purchaser who turns up with their own tools. "Any inspection welcome" means exactly that. I'll cheerfully pitch in and assist, and I did a proper conscientious service on all my bikes when they sold.

As a buyer, I took tools to the Enfield, saw the absolutely pristine state of the chap's Mancave, thoroughly approved of the cut of his jib, kicked it over, rode it up and down his (actual) private road, and paid him the full asking price without a moment's hesitation.

Don't buy from chancing pikeys like East Kilbride BMW Motorrad and it's unlikely to be an issue, might be the nub of my gist.

Yes i would if I had a reason too or something to look for. Like a common fault with a model etc

Only time I have ever done it was buying an old golf gti I spent ages taking bits apart to check for hidden rust etc. Was worth the time it took to find a spot on vehicle

A seller with nothing to hide would have no issue with this I would imagine. Provided you look like you know what your doing

Voted no but I suppose I should of clicked yes. I always check to see if the vehicle is charging correctly. I did this on my friends MR2 after the guy who advertised it said he had just replaced the alternator!

As a seller if a buyer wanted to pull off a fairing I'd do it myself. I wouldn't be yanking off engine covers though, sprockets can be inspected with a torch and mirror.

Every time.

And the sellers welcome it.
Until, that is -- all tolerance out the window --
they see me break out the Plastigauge.

I get called a crank quite often.
And told to piss off.
Every time.
