Best available shock for the KMX 125 is the Wilbers fully adjustable one. Yours for £460 with a 14 day wait. This shock is made specifically for the KMX 125. Also allows adjustment of the ride height, as well as compression and rebound damping adjustment.
The other shock is the Hagon. This is made to fit the Kmx 125. Retail for around £220 now. Has basic preload and rebound damping adjustment. This is more of a simple replacement for the OEM Kawasaki shock. I haven't heard any feedback on the quality, but it is rebuildable. Hagon will overhaul them for £100 when the time comes.
The OEM Kawasaki part wasn't built to be rebuilt, like most OEM shocks. I believe some of the suspension specialists can rebuild the later type shocks (separate reservoir versions). If you are considering having your shock rebuilt then check they can actually rebuild it first.
I looked into using a kx shock but there are a couple of fundamental problems. First is that the kx shock has a much larger diameter, and often a "piggyback" style reservoir, which means it does not physically fit with the kmx airbox in place. Secondly, the KMX uses a different shock mount to all the KX shocks I have come across, although this can be amended relatively easily for those handy with a welder, or a job for a welding shop.
Hope this helps. ____________________ 1988 Kawasaki KMX 200

Hi dangerousdave,
The Wilbers shock at £460 is beyond my budget and considering I only paid £1000 for the bike I can't justify paying that much.
The Hagon shock is nearer to my budget at £220 but I can't find for less than £299.
Have you seen one for sale at £220?
I did intend to spend £120 max but I suppose that won't be realistic. I thought I could maybe buy a second hand shock in reasonable condition off a different bike that would provide stiffer suspension.
Thanks for the help so far |
