gt8800 died...whats best option

My old gt8800 died and I'm needing a replacement. I'm not a big gamer but do play borderlands2 and I've got a copy of the latest COD id like to play but not installed yet ! Pc is a few years old with 16 x pci and sli capable ( did have a pair of 8800's for a while so plenty of psu capacity)
Budget is £100 Mark and I'm not averse to buying used if needed.

Current recommended cards are GTX660 ti from a friend and a GT7500

What's the BCF thoughts and recommendations.... or even any cards for sale Smile

I upgraded to the GTX 660 (not Ti) and wasn't really that impressed

Card looks like ram failure as static vertical lines! Might be worth a try but thinking it's 6+ years old so maybe an upgrade would be a better option?

but it works, I have baked a couple of cards and a PS3 successfully, it not as though you have anything to loose.

270*c fan off (if you have a fan oven) 7 - 10 minutes should do the trick

What's teh spec of your pc?

No point in banging in a top of the range card if the pc is a 486 SX33.

and yes the baking link didn't do anything but take me to my edit page...but with the new info I'll give it a go with both of the dead cards....like you say nothing to lose so an interesting experiment at worst! They were going to the bin anyhow !

Cansa it's a 7 yr old Q6600 CPU on an asus sli mobo ( can't remember the exact model now) running 4gig of DDR2 ram with a 3x1 TB raid 5 setup an OS running on a 4th HD ......all running on an old school Liquid cooled setup with a rad bigger than my old RD125 LC

Apart from needing an SSD and more RAM for photo editing it's only if editing gopro vids that the CPU breaks a sweat so there may be a year or 2 before it gets an upgrade

Well guys I did the bake it for a try out...nothing to lose as it's going in the bin anyhow.....1st card which was totally dead I did at 270 degrees and one of the components fell off into the baking tray!! So did the card that had the lines across the display...suspect ram at 200 degrees for 10 minutes.....and Bugger me it's working again!

So myth confirmed ....it is possible to reflow a graphics card with a few balls of foil and an oven!

Note to self.....gpu gets very hot without fresh thermal paste!

Looking forward to trying the new card from Chris as it's well. Overdue an upgrade!

When I ran the 8800 gt's in sli it was enough to warm the room! 2 of these in crossfire is probs enough to heat a small flat Smile

I had a missed delivery note from the postman on Saturday so I'm guessing the card isin the local sorting office! I'll get it fitted tomorrow if that's the case Wink

Not ever had anything but nvidia since the voodoo card days is it the same deal of all drivers in a single file ala nvidia or any recomended driver type that works best?

Get the latest one from the nvidia website
windows will probably install the latest WLHQ or what ever but jsut use the ones from the nvidia website.
