Today I was riding home from work. The road is a little corner heavy so usually a lot of fun after a soul destroying day in the office. Coming around some of the tighter corners, with hedges on the near side, there is almost no visibility around the actual bend itself.
To cut a long story short....
I HATE HORSE POOP!
I was taking it easy today when I fish tailed it after coming round the corner and catching a nice, fresh, squishy dookie. I fully support riding horses, even have done myself but even then I thought it irresponsible to leave s**t in the road.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks they should pick up the poo like all dog owners have to? ____________________ Currently Riding: CBR125-R7 (and having too much fun doing it) + Kawasaki Z750 (She's called Clementine for a reason!) |

I know it's annoying and I really do wish I could train Arthur to wait or put his arse to the side but it doesn't work like that, plus they were there first, the poo washes away after a rain and it mainly consists of grass anyway!, dog shit is different, ever noticed why processed and particularly meat eaters shit stinks the worst?
Just stop moaning and live with it. And on roads where there's horse shit stains, go steady cos there's possibly a horse there! We all have to share this land, let's share it and tolerate each others imprint! |
What utter tosh!
Yes i agree it's not practical to pick it up, but how about moving it off the road??
Where were they first? Roads? I wasn't aware horses mastered the art of building roads?
As for sharing land? Roads make up a tiny tiny proportion of land in the country. Horses can be ridden in fields, bikes generally can't.
I have never got why a rider feels the need to trundle up a road anyway??? What is wrong with galloping across meadows? ____________________ Current Bikes: ZX7r 97 (Black Beauty), VFR400 NC24 (The banana)

Horse riders I think give themselves a bad name by being holier-than-thou, self-righteous, stuck-up gits. (generalisation of course ).
Modern roads are built for motor vehicles. Ask the government which they'd rather see using the roads - people in motorised vehicles who pay taxes to legally do so, or people riding animals that don't. How long would society last if we went back to prioritising horses as transport?
I do take care when there are horses around, common courtesy. However, I have a pretty loud pipe on my bike, I won't change that for them. I'd prefer to see them kept off the roads, but I don't think that will happen, so I put up with them.
As for their shit - butt plugs ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Which actually doesn't necessarily work.

At the vanishing point of the bend in the picture, by the time the bike reaches it, another vehicle could be occupying that space having come around the bend in the opposite direction. Just sayin'

I am exceptionally careful and considerate around horses, up to and including just stopping and switching off the engine.
Considering how flipping lethal riding those things is, I do feel some responsibility towards the specials that choose to do so, probably in ignorance or denial about the risks.
How I actually feel about them using metalled roads though is...

These 'who should be on the roads' type threads always amuse me.
As a massive generalisation:
Motorcyclists hate horses and cyclists and cagers
Cagers hate motorcyclists and cyclists, but seem O.K with horses
Cyclists hate cunts in white vans
I'm not sure who horses hate! ____________________ Current bike - 2018 H2-SX, 2004 SV1000s, 2016 Aprilia RSV4 RF, 2017 Sherco SERF 300, 2003 Suzuki DRZ400 (stolen - AY53 JUU) |

I'm all for consideration. I've just observed that the groups to whom I show the most (footists, pedalists, horsists) seem to contain many individuals who reciprocate the least.
Mind you, car drivers probably think I'm a filthy queue jumping criminal for filtering, so I guess we all have our own views on what's considerate or not. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
