Chaps

I need a new router. The Sky one is crap, not even gig networking but has to be retained to be used as a modem so either ADSL or cable router type replacement is fine. I need the following features as a minimum.

Gig networking.
Able to handle speeds of over 30mb.
individual time cut offs by MAC address, parental controls.
Guest WiFi preferable.
Minimum 1 USB, prefer 2 for NAS/NAP.
Able to handle 20+ devices without strain.
Large house over 3 floors so decent wireless.

So suggestions please chaps.

If you require 20+ wireless devices in concurrent use, you should consider multiple access points instead of single device wifi.

A normal router with wireless, with the routing bit disabled, is often cheaper than a dedicated wifi access point device.

I didn't say wireless, just 20+ clients. A lot of routers slow to a crawl with 5 or more attached. I have a server, NAS, Xbox, BluRay attached at all times. On top of that routinely 3+ phones, 2 x tabs and 3 x laptops and a desktop with the possibility of a further 3 servers, 3 more Xbox's and another 6 laptops as well as android TV boxes to add on top.

I trust Asus & Netgear for networking Thumbs Up
Sky don't give out the connection details you need for the new router freely. They try and force you to use their own kit.
However I've been well informed by another regular member a few posts back, that there is a work around to make the connection details visible. But I'm sure you knew that Rolling Eyes

And we have five laptops, three PCs, a NAS, five phones, three tablets, two kindles, and miscellaneous virtual machines (distinct IPs handed out by DHCP and needing tracking and translation by NAT in router). Point being that I'm familiar with the load and requirements.

Clearly, since I have no idea what you're talking about. If it's a forum post I made, in reply to you specifically - I'm sorry. I interact on a lot of forums and tend to reply on the basis of the immediate message, rather than a remembered history of conversation. For good wireless coverage in a three-story house, I'd dip into my box of old routers - I must have a half-dozen by now - and slice up the spectrum by zone. Not all of them will be n or ac, but not everything needs speeds in excess of 54Mbps. Point being that wifi is a shared bus network, total bandwidth is shared across devices. Doing in this way is normally cheaper and more effective than buying a single whizz-bang wifi router.

Part of the point of interacting on a public forum, BTW, is so that the information is shared across other forum members, and the general public via internet searches. What I write is not just for your benefit. If you find it useful, fine. If you don't, be specific in pointing out where I'm wrong; ambiguity doesn't help everyone else.

I think I will. Looks like they are considerably better than the latest Linksys ones but then Belkin own them now.
Asus have an online GUI for you to play with as well which pretty much shows you all the features and how to use the router.

DDWRT is getting pushed onto it aswell, you might not need it though and it is still buggy.
