Im having a little trouble with wiring my dt125re engine into my dt125r loom (long story)

Basically on the DT125re engine i have 3 power wires(White) which originally go straight to the rectifier and you have a red wire come from that and its the power wire to the rest of the system and battery and a black wire which attaches to the outside of the rectifier (earth)

on the old loom ive wired the 3 wires which originally went to the rectifier which were white, Yellow red and black.

Bare in mind the rest of the wires are fine the bike starts and runs im just having trouble with the lights side of things

Now what im confused at is ive connected one of the white wires(From Engine) to the black in the loom which is the earth wire in the system. It doesnt make sense to me connecting a live wire direct to the earth but the confusing thing is neither of the lights work at all without that wire being connected.

With the white wire connected to the black all the lights work for a couple of seconds and then the bulbs go (tail light and sidelight) it seems im getting about 7 volts or so to the bulbs(DC). The even more confusing thing is that the lights are connected to the yellow/Red wire from the cdi.

Any insight at all would be very useful

Basically what im asking the most in the original old loom the black wire is connected to one of the lives from the stator as far as i can work out. Why is a live wire connected to earth ?

Or am i missing something ?

Also does this rectifier need to be bolted to an earth on frame or is it connected to earth through black wire ?

I can post the part of the loom i am confused about if needed

Cheers In advance
Ryan
