A little video of my two week solo motorbike trip
(It's just a movie maker edit so don't expect anything too slick)

travelling down through France, Switzerland, Italy, then dipping into Slovenia before riding up through Austria, Germany and France.
The route was completely unplanned, I just rode then decided the next days destination the evening before. It seemed to work fairly well.

The bike struggled a little going up the Stelvio Pass, it wouldn't rev over 6k and would sputter under load! Not sure if this was caused by the thin air? would it be that sensitive? but it was fine for the rest of the trip.

The solo travelling thing was ok but you really need to keep yourself busy riding or sightseeing, if you have too much spare time it can get a little boring although I did meet plenty of nice people along the way.

My R1 was having issues when we were 1,760m above sea, that is about 2,500 or more above so probably fun and games in the carb department.

Looks like a nice trip! Wish I could have the time and patience to do that!

Well its been fine since, there were a few cars that had overheated but nobody else seemed to be having such bad running problems even the Renault 4 (I think it is) in front at one point seemed to be doing ok.
I wasn't sure if it was carb issues or the complete lack of torque the bike has. Was a bit rubbish going up but more fun coming down Smile

Next year I'm doing something like this.
The more of these videos I watch, the more I want to do it. My bike already has massive great
panniers so I'm halfway there luggage wise already.
I've crossed America and toured California in a similar fashion as you've done Europe,
no plan, no itinerary and nothing booked apart from the car and the first night accommodation.
It was 3 weeks, 2 cars, 4500 miles and I'd crossed 3 time zones before I was done.
I've a similar trip planned already for this year doing 3 weeks of exploring
around the South Island of NewZealand. But it will be either by car again, with lots of hotel/motel stops.
Or by camper, trying to get from place to place that way instead.
My wife is just starting her journey to a bike licence, she has her CBT on Saturday.
My hope is that if she can pass soon enough then she'll be able to accompany me on her own bike.
But if not then we'll be two up.
Nice video dude, enjoyed watching it Thumbs Up

Nice video. I'd like to do the same thing but I think my Fireblade isn't the most suitable bike for the job. ZX6R J2 was much better for that.

I really need like 3-4 bikes to be really happy Wink

I found the R1 the best long distance machine. Sat on mway to ferry getting 50mpg+ and consumed less fuel than the 2 600cc's than came with Thumbs Up

The fzr4 did about 55mpg, but you couldn't really sit at anything above 65-70mph as it would be revving at 7-8k.

A CBR1000RR would have been bliss Laughing

One thing I noticed was that the sales figures of sports bikes in Europe must be tiny, I saw about 3 other sports bikes in over 3000 miles.

Hi was away for just under 2 weeks but I didn't really have any rest days, just riding or sightseeing. To make the trip a bit more relaxing you could do it over a few more days.

I would have thought Stelvio would still be hard work even if the weather was good. The turns are too tight and blind , the traffic is very heavy with coaches and motorhomes doing 5 point turns on every bend and the surface not great. I think its more of one of those things to do just to say you've done it. Definitely not one of the worlds greatest biking roads.

On the plus side the views are amazing, there is a good sense of camaraderie with the other riders ect on the pass and some of the less extreme part of the road are actually quite nice to ride.
Have a good trip Thumbs Up Cool

See Applecross is a lot smaller but same idea, its great fun if the roads are quiet but the surface is pretty shit now as its single track the gravel sits in the middle of the road so you have to ride left or right of centre.

Scenery looks nice, a bit like New Zealand. I did a trip to Skye and up the west coast a few years back but didn't take that road. Looks a very narrow is it normally one way when its open?
