If you buy a helmet from Germany and it is delivered by DHL, what are the chances of getting lumped with cutsoms charges and how much are they?

Looking at fc-moto.de which has a lot of stuff much cheaper than the UK.

That. I happily eBay stuff from wherever it's cheapest within the "common market". Ich bin ein Brusseliner, when it suits.

No duty from within the EU.


BUT... consider that a helmet is a delicate piece of kit, and that some couriers and middle-men can be less than delicate.

Until the "Och, aye" voters ruin it for you. Then you'll be paying import duty on everything from Carlisle southwards. Maybe. Hell, I'm not sure I, or anyone else for that matter, knows.

Anyway, keeping it on topic, OP, there is no duty on stuff bought in the EU and I wouldn't hesitate to do so as long as the saving wasn't wiped out by the delivery charges.

Only for ACU race meetings.

Track days I don't know of any that insist on an ACU sticker, only seen it mentioned that that it has to have ECE 22.05 sticker/label, although I've never seen anyone at a track day actually have their helmet checked.

And a helmet from inside the EU should have the ECE sticker anyway.

Well, I imagine, or at least hope, that most helmets sold in Britain are shipped over in larger crates or shipping containers that are a little less subject to carelessness, and when they are handled roughly the contents is packed well enough that it doesn't cause too much damage.

One box on its own though is probably going to receive a lot more grief

Can't see a problem especially from Germany if you are happy buying online anyway.
Buying online is how the potential damage comes in even if you bought it from a place 50 miles away.
From Germany they will be using a decent international courier not Yodel or something.

I find items bought in Germany often arrive in about 3 days which is better than some UK sellers manage.
