Do I need to physically take my insurance cert' and mot ticket to tax a bike in person at the post office?
I know they're both valid, (MOT'd March, insurance renewed in May) but can't find the documents as I've moved house recently.
Thanks!

You're meant to have all the documents present when you apply for tax but last time I went post office for tax they saw everything on the system so there was no need for me to show anything.

I'm pretty sure it's all electronic now so they check it on their systems.

Or do it online?

They can check it all online now. However if the bike has only just been insured it may not show for them so I'd take the paper stuff anyway.

I'd just do it online. Yes, you're supposed to display a disc, but only for another month: it would take a jobsworth of truly epic proportions to care during that time as long as Computer Says Taxed.

Bought a new (used) bike 2 weeks ago that needed taxing. Was concerned that the online records might not be updated quick enough as I only applied for the insurance 3 hours before getting the bike, took a printed copy of the certificate along to the post office just in case but didn't need anything - it was all available for them to see online already.

Yes.

The only thing they don't have is a Virtual Queue Simulator.

Erm. Who cares? It's all electronic in 1 months time anyway. Tax Discs will be irrelevant.

What was the Question again?Oh yeah, MOT & Insurance at Post-Office?

Yes/No/Maybe.

There's no MOT cert any more, what they give you at the MOT place is merely a 'receipt', so if its not on the system, it ent MOT'd.. but last one I did I rode straight from MOT to Post Office and was on the system by time I arrived 5mins later, so they never asked. Ditto the Insurance, though that was a week or so in date, so on the system also, and again not asked for. I had no 'reminder' as bike had been SORN, but made no odds, they did it all off the system and just took my money and handed me the disc... don't think they even got me to fill in a form, just asked for the reg-no basically.
