Hi,
I passed my full A2 test just under 2 years and have been looking for some info on what to do.
Firstly do i have to send the license back to the dvla to have the restriction removed or is it fine left as it is ( with the <25KW still on) or is this a bit risky?
Secondly, i passed my car test on the 20th of jan 2013 so have the newer style license, does this mean that my bike entitlement is affected as it was sent back to me after the changes to the bike tests came into effect or am i fine to ride without taking any more tests?
Thanks in advance Smile

As far as I am aware you do not have to change it but should you wish to then I would seriously suggest "losing" the license as the DVLA seem to be very good at removing motorcycle entitlements from full car licences.

Should your license come back without the entitlement you can "find" your lost one and sort it out.

Your bike entitlement won't change because you passed your car test, you'll still be fine to ride any bike once your restriction is up. Also you don't need to send your licence back if you don't want to. I've personally just kept mine with the <25kW restriction on it - it doesn't invalidate your entitlement to unrestricted goodness.

As most will suggest, don't send the licence back, just "lose" it and request a new one. Which should come back with all your entitlements, and your restriction removed, and if not, you have your back up one which you'll stumble upon later Wink

Its risky sending your license to the DVLA. They don't acknowledge your restricted period, so your future licenses will show category A from when your restriction ended (if that makes sense).

Oh that'd be ace for when you have to send your licence to the insurer and they point out your disclosures are incorrectooooo

Of course everyone keeps a copy of their pass certificate.... right?

Certainly do - Car test sheet from 2010 - both bike ones from 2011. Just to be safe.

Just make sure you do it the right way and lose it in your filing cabinet. Don't do an 'Alpha' and lose it in another way that's more permanent!

We had one member swear that DVLA Doris actually advised him to "lose" his license. Wink

I'd get out of the habit of calling it that. Insurers are easily confused (ello, arry Wink) so you need to be straight on what you had and have.

Yes, you passed on an old-style "A2" bike, but the test you sat was "standard bike". You have never had an "A2" license or category. You always had "A", with that 25kW restriction which is soon to expire which is totally awesome. Dance!

Not a question that is part of a normal statement of Fact but we sift the bent ones out by their selection of cruiser based motorcycle
