Crashed my bike today.

The ZX9 with nice shiny unscratched panels now looks as though somebody has taken a belt sander to it and hit the fairings with a sledgehammer for good measure... sigh.

Just been for a meal, pulling out of a right turn, put some power on and the back wheel just spun up and didn't really give me a chance to rectify it.

I've been burning the candles at both ends recently, the tyres were cold, and perhaps there was some brake fluid involved (some strange slippy fluid around the rim and back tyre, may have happened before the crash but I doubt it.

Not entirely sure what caused it.

As for me, I don't have a scratch or bruise on me, kevlar jeans from Aldi, good shout, they held up well.

The annoying thing is I can't attribute it to one thing like a bit of gravel (could have been, but it was dark).

It was only a couple of weeks ago that it nearly threw me off again in a big big way, again whilst coming out of the corner, the rear doesn't settle when you're coming out of a corner it seems to "bounce" a bit. I'm no expert though.

So what's my best option to get the bike not looking like a fucking shed? All the front right fairings have damage. That's three separate pieces and the screen which is also broken.

Investigate slippy stuff. Then maybe the suspension could do with a refresh, set it up for your weight...doing stuff that would set my mind at ease if A) my bike bounced out of corners and B) I couldn't blame it on being hamfisted with the throttle.

Glad to hear you bounced well. Thumbs Up

Did you ever set the suspension up?

There's a few alternatives to improve the handling with the 9r depending on Bharat you want.

The route I went with the rear was to fit a 12r shock as they raise the rear ride height by about 12mm and have a stiffer spring than the std 9r one, they also have more adjustment than the 9r shock for rebound and compression damping.

You can also fit a f shock, finer adjustment and also increases ride height, same with the E shock and they're all a straight fit, even a 10r shock will fit with a bit of either the shock mount or shock lug having a tad shaved off of it.

I never did set it up, but I fucked around with the preload to try and raise the height. It did feel a bit soft to be honest.

I'm toying with the idea of just getting rid of it and buying a GSXR 1000, shame as the bike was so nice and such low mileage for the year :-/

Can't find any nice fairings for it and I'm not paying OEM prices, seems like I'll have it for too long looking shit.

Went in the garage this morning and there's no oil leak which is a good sign I suppose, rear fairings have been untouched, tank is unmarked, needs upper cowling, right cowling, belly pan and some engine cases. ~£1000 new Neutral

Sadly they don't know the actual models...

https://www.motofairingset.com/E05-Aftermarket-Fairing-Set-Fi-p-14882.html

This says 98-99 but has the twin headlights.

EDIT: Just seen a West colour scheme fairing set. Anybody on here got experience with this website? Comes to about £200 for the fairings, what can I expect to pay in custom's charges?

Having a bike which has already been down the road is a bit underrated tbh. I'd possbly just keep it the way it is and save your money for other things, like the previously mentioned suspension.

Gonna check to make sure there are no cracks in the engine casing then probably go for this. Thanks Snipet!

Does it look legit?

Then I will get the suspension sorted.

Similar thing happened to me on a ZX9. Cold tires and tired brain combination meant that I opened the throttle too much too soon on a corner near my house and almost highsided.

Put it down to experience. Not got Dunlops on by any chance? Thinking

What gsxr 1000 to thinking of?

I had a ZK4 and it was superb, much better than the 9,I like the 9 as I've had two and their great bikes but not a patch on the thou if you ask me.....the thou is even great for doing some touring but the only down side is you turn in to a complete hooligan,it just wheelies then wheelies some more, big huge mono's over big crests on the road at 130+......its addictive and I'm sure its a craving I'll need to fix again.

I fancy the k5/6 next time round though.

How much you hoping to get if you sell?
