I have a mini pc to use with xbmc which I thought had wifi as I had seen the aerial wires, turns out it doesn't.

So a full size mini PCI-e wifi card appeared on my desk, this fits in a fashion as the motherboard is meant to use a half size mini card.

So what tapes can I use to hold it down as the socket pops it up.

Also any foams I can use to wedge between it and the hard drive to help the tape, thinking pipe insulation.

Serious builders need not apply Wink

pictures maybe helpful at this point.

you have seen the actual a lot modified before so that a PCIe x16 card would go into a PCIe x4 slot. this maybe the solution but cant really tell to be honest

or........ micro-usb wifi

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Edimax-EW-7811UN-150Mbps-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B003MTTJOY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409857266&sr=8-1&keywords=micro+wifi+usb

cheap as sorts your issue out (range is fine too)

My xbmc setup uses a network cable though, didn't like streaming hd over wireless personally

Is there no hole at the top right, for a screw? Does the motherboard not have a post either?

+1 for pictures

Pics to follow soon.

For info the card fits in the connector perfect it's just to long, long as in length from connector to end of card as it's full size not half size.

Case open

Hard drive removed to expose motherboard with full size mini card in, you can kinda make out in the pic the card has popped up as I have removed the tiny amount of tape I used to stick it down for testing

Wifi card removed to expose screws for half sized card that I am to cheap to buy.

So in situ it all works fine, I only need to stick the card down a bit, electrictrian's tape plus maybe some foam in top to wedge against the hard drive?

Blue tack to stick it down and a folded beer mat to wedge it in place. Problem solved.
