I'm in that position we are all in from time to time - went past a sneaky camera van on Sunday and not sure if a ticket is on the way. The 5-0 will have a good picture of my rear wheel 6" off the ground and my brake-light on....

Is it an urban myth that if a ticket doesn't come within two weeks of the alleged offence then one is immune from prosecution?

Not quite.

They need to have posted it to you within 14 days. You don't need to have received it within that time.

Providing all your details are correct with the DVLA (addresses etc) then I would give it a month and then not give it another thought.

Not quite. They need to post it to you so that in the normal course of events you would receive it within 14 days.

If it does come through you really do need to post the picture!

In any event do not sign any papers they send to you. There is no requirement in law to sign anything but I do believe you need to provide driver details or the registered keeper will get the blame.

Look it up about the signing there was a recent case and it was thrown out!

No, the registered keeper will not get the blame.

The registered keeper will get a 6 point bonus (plus fine) for refusing to stitch anyone up...

^^^ I stand corrected! they won't have any 'blame' but they will suffer the consequences!

Same difference in effect.

In this event I was the rider and I am the Registered Keeper, so it would be a fair cop in the event that I was speeding. Naturally I wasn't.

No, you get 3 points (or alternately the "I'm a naughty boy/girl" course) if you cough....

Well at least they have the right person, which is a novelty these days. Furnish them with the details but don't sign the form, take it to court.

Go back and check there are/was correct signage etc etc. ask for the evidence to be disclosed that they will bring to court.

Or cough and pay higher insurance for 5 years. The court option is the cheaper in the long run I reckon! Plus you may get off as only 1% of folk challenge their tickets!

It might not even come to that anyway. Where I live it's usually 3 days and the ticket is there on the doormat!

For me it was a whole £25 extra. It was worth it for the 20 years of speeding I'd already done...

WAIT!

How fast does a ticket need to be going
before itself a speeding ticket receives?

Presuming, of course, that the first ticket is travelling at such a speed that the second ticket can catch up to it.

Whatever -- surely the second ticket, in high speed pursuit of the first ticket, itself a speeding ticket deserves.

And so a third ticket is speedily despatched which in turn a speeding ticket cops.

So now, four tickets; the first, a touch of poor obs, a trifle over the limit, perhaps, but still, pretty much minding its own business and generally doing no real harm.
Each subsequent ticket, though, speeding ever faster . . .

It follows, thus, that there has to be, in due course, an ultimate ticket speeding at the ultimate speed.
And because nothing can travel faster than the ultimate speed, the ultimate ticket, while going faster than the rest combined*, gets let off scot-free! Bastard.

*But there's a downside to all this.

At the very moment that the ultimate ticket springs into existence --- and in doing so requiring ALL of the energy that it can muster i.e. the universe itself --- everything to a singularity points -- in other words The Big Crunch.

Which, it could reasonably be concluded, might well be the ultimate fate of anyone to whom a speeding ticket is issued in the first place, should they habitually carry on regardless.

As to any potential for The Big Crunch, well, we'll all know just who to blame. Won't we, Diggs?
