I'm considering getting the MT-09 and was planning on trying to blag a deal at the NEC bike show in November. Anyway, thought I'd run some insurance quotes to see what the damage would be and no bloody insurer will quote me. tried all the various comparison sites.

Bike licence held for a few months, but have 2 years no claims and full NCD on car.

Is this normal? Bear in mind I was able to get a half decent quote on a 2009 R1 - £660 FC.

Try asking at Swintons, or a local insurance broker.

Brokers usually go the extra mile to get (their commission) you a quote.

If you have only held licence entitlement a couple of months, but try claiming NCD, web-quotes often go screwy and if they dont come up with a daft number, reffer you to tele-sales anyway, as system often rejects the NCB as an 'error' figuring you cant have earned NCB if you haven't had a licence.

Cut to the quick, try again using the old-fashioned telephone - often find its SO much faster and easier than battling with 'on-line' services. (Frequently get better deals too)

yeh will try phoning around then, I just find the comparison sites easier as they store details so don't spend ages going over the same crap.

Never used a real live human broker before. Do they still exist? Thought it was all telephone touts now.

Try the postcode above with no other changes to your policy.

Humans are real but fuck that... I won't speak to an insurer unless I'm wiped out in an accident.

Same here. FZ1, Z1000, CB1000r, all return quotes of £100 ish TPFT, R1 is £250 TPFT. MT-09 cannot get a quote via CTM, go compare etc

New bikes can attract a premium, even for TPO - I was charged the same again to swap insurance from an older NSR to a pretty much identical but 10 years newer one.
They explained that the age went through three cut offs which bumped the price up.

While the MT-09 is decent value for a new bike, why not have a look at a second hand speed triple?

I get 'Call us' from bennetts and other quote sites.

but can happily get a quote for a Z1000... (turns out to be cheaper than the Street Triple R quote)

MT-09 is cursed...

What are you all doing???

I've got 6 points showing, a non fault claim, put that the bike is kept in a residential car park with no security at all, in a London borough, used for commuting. And even I can get a quote.

It's not even that much more expensive than my divvy to insure.

9 points, (3 active, 6 within 5 years), kept in locked garage, 1 years NCD, low crime area, Yamaha immobiliser, commuting on policy

I don't even get the "call us" message, just one stating none have been able to "provide a quote at this time"

Looks like I'm getting an R1...
