After 120 miles in one day on the thing I ended up walking like I'd shit myself for a day afterwards. 300 miles is going to be interesting. ____________________ Passed A2 licence 19th Dec '14. |

Both tyres are tubed on your bike. The one which says "tubeless" on it also has a tube in, otherwise the air would escape through the holes the spokes go through.
You need to decide if you're going to go equipped to repair a flat tyre or not.
If you are, you're going to need tyre levers, a pump, enough tools to remove the wheel, a little bit of soap to reseat the beads, a puncture repair kit or spare tube* and the knowledge of how to use them to fix your bike. I also find my little tool for pulling the valve through invaluable.
That's a lot of gear to carry for a 300 mile run. Or you can hope you don't get a puncture, which is most likely to be the case.
Even then, it's probably going to allow you to limp to a compressor. Not many pumps you'd carry on the bike can seat the bead properly. Took my enfield rear tyre up to 90psi with the valve core out to seat it properly last time.
In terms of other stuff. On my enfield I carry a comprehensive toolkit. On the VFR, in addition to the standard bike toolkit, I carry a cable repair kit and puncture plug kit along with a set of bent but still working handlebar levers under the saddle.
*On about 50% of my punctures, the partially deflated tyre has slipped round on the rim and torn the valve out rendering the tube unrepairable. I carry a spare tube. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Leatherman, eyedrops and a wipe for your visor. Other than the AA card I reckon you have it more than covered.
Given that you will be in't saddle for ages I'd let the bike take the weight of your gear - don't use a rucksack.... ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

You ARE joking right?
A set of plastic bicycle tyre levers to get a motorcycle tyre over the rim?
You need at least two, big, heavy-duty metal tyre levers at least 6" long. I carry three, two shorties for holding and a big 9" one for levering.
You also need large, heavy-duty patches if you want them to stay on for any length of time. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Have just done some googling and yeah you are correct, rear tyre is tubed as well. The asda near me do a kit just like the one you linked to for under £5, but it's in the push bike accessories section. Presumably it would still work for motorcycle inner tubes? ____________________ Passed A2 licence 19th Dec '14. |

Thanks for all the info, I was a bit naive really thinking a can of tyreweld was going to cover me. I'm still very new to working on and fixing bikes myself so I think it would be a good idea for me to get more experience until I start relying only on my own skills to repair a shagged out tyre on the roadside.
Based on what you've said I think it would be sensible for me to take out some form breakdown cover just in case I get a spot of crap luck and it's something that I don't have the tools, or knowledge to fix at this stage. ____________________ Passed A2 licence 19th Dec '14. |

Tools are handy anyway, as (a) if you have a problem but don't have the knowledge, someone who stops might have, and (b) you might not have a problem, but could come across someone who does. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you.
