I'm gonna buy a new desktop soon.
No gaming or anything just web browsing and streaming, I'd quite like to do a bit of photo and video editing (1080P) which is where my current ancient desktop really struggles.

I'm not looking to do anything pro so what are the minimum requirements I can get away with for a bit of home editing?
Hopefully something around the i5 or AMD A8 price. Most seem to have AMD radeon cards but the numbers mean nothing to me.
I'd like to get something off the shelf rather then build something myself as I'm not really interested in learning.

If all you want to do is cut, splice or other basic stuff then any modern hardware should be up to the job.

i5 would be just fine. i7 with hyperthreading if you've got enough money.

Its a very old freeby that I got from my sister, no idea where she got it from as its a self build using a ASUS P5L-VM 1394 board in an odd shaped case that takes up loads of room.

Hence I'm just gonna buy something completely new.

With regards to the editing at the moment my computer can only run such basic editing programs all I can do is cut and splice. I enjoyed putting my euro tour video together so wouldn't mind having a go at learning to do something slightly more involved.
So basically a computer that can cope with doing basic editing but could be upgraded without total replacement at a later date if I felt I wanted to.

SSD drive, 8GB+ RAM, USB 3.x for slurping data off of your memory cards. Anything else is gravy.
