Speed Triple wont go above 130mph

i have a Speed Triple 1050 (2005) and it will not go any faster than 130mph. The only mod is it has an under seat Trident Wolf twin exhausts. There are no other noticeable performance issues, it rides and accelerates beautifully but just wont go above 130. I have been told this bike should get up to around 145mph. Has anyone else had similar issue and if so, what was the problem? Bike only has 9,500 miles on it.

How are you positioned on the bike at higher speeds, my hornet wont want to go above 125mph if i keep a normal position and have to kiss the clocks to get the top speed.

Are you trying to do it by staying in top gear and rolling on?

As a general rule (I've never ridden a speed triple mind) redline it in all gears on the way up for a top speed run.

You may well find it goes quicker in 5th than 6th. On my VFR, 6th just gives it that last, slowly creeping 5mph with your head down, elbows tucked and shoulders arched.

Different animal but my street triple pulls to the redline in 6th and indicated 150mph, true speed is only a shade over 131 mind.

With the speed, I'd expect to be in 5th until the redline, as above, likely it will pull far better in that gear.

I second the unflappy advice. I had a lot less drag when i tightened the arms n chest on my textile jacket. Not looking forward to going back to wearing it after a summer of leather!

I got 145 (indicated) out of my VFR750 2-up. It was still pulling a little when I lost concentration due to there being a police bike doing the same thing as I was but in the opposite direction.

The visual effect of the closing speed on a single carriageway was rather impressive.

I am genuinely suprised to hear how low the top speeds are on some of the bikes mentioned in this thread given their engine capacity and power output.

i dont intend to go over 130 mph too often i just want to know if its something i should consult the Triumph dealer about. My Speed Triple pulls like a train and and beats most bikes off the mark up to 100mph, but just flat lines at 130mph whereas it should be touching 150mph. it felt like it was going quicker but clocks stayed put at 130mph.. i had it tested and its producing 129bhp so really should be hitting a higher top end.

someone suggested i should redline it in 4th and 5th before getting to 6th gear.. as this can impact top end. sounds feasible. thanks for the responses guys.. and be safe.

What revs is it doing at 130, is it near the redline? If so someone may have lowered the gearing for more acceleration ( assuming you bought it 2nd hand and you haven't changed it ). If it isn't anywhere near the red line then maybe the engine map is out for the pipes and it needs setting up.
Of course you could just be a fat wide git

The speed four was the same with "100 oss" at the engine, you had to really tuck in tight to nudge it past 130 leptons, past 120 it really struggled. My present bike, well that's a little different.

Hi

Lots of things will knock top speed down. Bulky rider. Lose clothing. Down geared. Lack of power (possibly from an exhaust designed for looks / noise rather than power).

100hp is enough for a naked bike to get a bit past 140mph (but a peaky bike might need a careful choice of gearing)
