Hi guys,

Basically I lost my keys to my CB500, whch is a real bummer because I am looking to sell it!

Whats the best/cheapest way to go about getting a new key? The only time this happened to me it was on a cg125 where the ignition easily popped out. On top of this, the shop I took that ignition to (Keys Galore) has closed down.

Thanks

Remove the ignition barrel & post it to express keys, they'll then cut a key to that lock & post it back to you.

https://www.express-keys.co.uk/auto-keys.html

Highly reccomended. Have dealt with them a helluva lot.

This may be of use to me also. Do you have ballpark prices?

Not very useful for you, but there is a guy in Leicester who comes out to you and cuts you a key from the petrol tank lock, charged £60 about 6 years ago.

Got an email back from express-keys. Cost is £25+vat, so £30 (why can't people just put inc vat prices Rolling Eyes ) for one key. Includes return postage. Thumbs Up

Good price, replacement key for my car is well over £200, plus the car needs coding to recognise the
electronic elements of it. So bung a half hour of labour on top of that as well.
I bet these bikes with immobiliser keys are similarly priced though.

Lost the keys for my NSR when I was trying to sell it, too. Express Keys saved the day for me as well.

Thank your stars it doesn't have Honda's H.I.S.S., now that's an arse puckering price to pay for losing the keys.

So basically it's been a month and i still have not done this. mainly due to the fact that i don't have the tools or know how to remove the barrel.

Would there be anyone here who wouldn't mind coming down to remove the ignition for me and i would pay them?
I'm in central London.

I would take it to a shop but i can't move the bike because i don't have the keys, so it would mean paying somebody to move it to the shop then saying the shop probably an extortionate fee, as well as storage or whatever.

My wife recently lost the car key*. She googled "lost car key" with the location. Various auto locksmiths came up. Various mobile ones would come and sort (pick locks, get any access codes, cut replacement, etc.).

Maybe you could try that? IIRC there were various that said motorcycles as well. Like this search. I clicked and Ozgoods Auto Locksmiths offer a "we come to you" service. I'm sure there are others if you look.

Best of luck Thumbs Up

* BTW the car key had been handed in but no-one told so when she went to ask (three times) she was told no. Eventually sorted. Saved us around £300 dealer prices or ballpark £150 from one of the mobile auto locksmiths.

Yeah I spoke to that ozgood guy and he quoted me £50 if I send him the ignition, or £150 if he came down.

Basically a 5 month bump.

Because it was winter, and I had a little 125 I just covered the bike and left it - until today,

I called the OzGood Locksmiths and the guy came down and had 3 shiney new keys cut on site. It was a bit trickey for him for some reason, but he done it in the end!

So yeah, I recommed the guy.

He was talking to Bodypart (who apparently has now purchased a blank key for his new proper big bike, and has reported said purchase in a thread in the 'random banter' subforum called 'last thing you bought').
