So as a guy still with L Plates (Not for much longer hopefully) I tend to get a little above average abuse by drivers on my commute to work in the mornings. Im not young, so, not one of these teenagers on a pimped out moped either.

As it turns out, I was told this morning by a very nice BMW driver that I should learn the laws of the road and filtering is illegal. He was probably younger and more jumped up than me Wink

I was totally taken aback when he rolled down his window and started giving it mouth. I honestly have never been confronted by that kind of behavior before! So I calmly slowed, lifted my visor and asked him politely to mind his language (as there were children around near a school on my route and there was profanity flying thick and fast). I informed him that it is perfectly legal for me to filter safely and that if he has an issue with it, maybe take it up with the proper authorities. Cool

I then just calmly rode off, not wanting to make anymore of a scene. For me it was not so much scary as it was confusing! Most of the time cagers are nice and pull over to the left to let me past. Even the police do! Laughing

Whats your worst cage rage incident? Twisted Evil

Well done on not having a go back mate, good on ya.
Luckily I haven't had anyone like that yet, just a few idiots who pull to the left to let you overtake then swerve out towards ya, always fun.

Well done you, I hope if I ever have a situation like that I can keep the same composure Smile

I don't tend to get many irate drivers though as I'm 6'5" and 260lbs Smile

had this on a few occasions, the last one the guy got out of his van and attempted to throw his weight around (heck he had enough of it). at this point I calmly reminded him that I was covered in armour design to protect me in the event of an off and for that reason would take a lot more of beating than my tiny stature would normally imply (I am 5'5" and weigh less than 11 stone), he went and got back, got in his van a drove off in a rage.

About three years ago my ex wife was being tailgated on her 500 after she overtook some grumpy old git, he was about two feet from her whilst travelling at 30ish.
I saw red, overtook him on the zed and then jack-knifed the zed across his front so he couldn't get passed, got off, went up to his open window and then 'informed' him, using some rather colourful language, that he was old enough to know better than to drive like that and that from now on I'd be in front of him and if he pulled the same stunt on me I'd stop once again and kick the shit out of him and his car.
Funnily enough he behaved after that.

As a rule this is NOT a good course of action but people do have a tendency to back off when I confront them, probably due to my upper build and unhinged outbursts Laughing

Last night filtered along the side of a long queue to the front of a set of lights. There was a bit of space at the front in the right hand lane so I pulled across and straightened up and sat waiting for the lights to change. Guy behind in a white Nissan Juke or whatever they're called obviously took exception to this so when the lights changed he immediately floored it, then swerved into the left lane and tried to get ahead and jink in front. Unfortunately for him there was a speed camera not far from the junction, and standstill traffic beyond that. He didn't look too happy...

Two numbers you'll want to learn:

Staying composed like that was definitely the best thing to do, and who knows, he may actually remember what you said and be a slightly better driver for it (doubtful). I must admit in situations like that I go from 0-angry in 2 seconds flat and would probably have made more of a scene, I hate being told what to do, especially when it's wrong.

I don't have mirrors, so tailgating doesn't bother me. Very Happy

I get a lot of tailgaters after I've filtered past them, or those that try to close the gap when traffic moves off, to stop me getting back in traffic. Only had one incident to speak of though, when I filtered past a few cars stopped at the lights, and stopped behind and to offside of the car at the front of the queue. When we set off, the fella behind undertook and cut across the front of me. I slammed on and blared my horn, he stopped and wound the window down. I asked him if he'd saw me, and he said, and I quote, "Fuck off, you cockhead!" and set off, stopping at the back off the queue all of 20 yards up the road. I pulled up alongside him and, whilst laughing, lifted my visor, winked and said "That got you far. Enjoy the congestion, you fat cunt!" and set off. Probably should've just got on with my day instead, but hey ho.

Completely agree with this - since I took my mirrors off I have no concerns for what goes on behind me. I'm sure that will change the day someone rides over me as I wait to do something... but meh.

My blood boils in 0.03 seconds and for the next half a second I could tear a mans head from his body but then I remember what my therapist told me and ride on...

Strange how the driver decided to move the car to the edge of the road with the guy still on the roof :S

My personal favourite ear bashing was when I was driving down a one way street. A car came the wrong way at me and the driver then complained I was taking up too much of the street. I pointed out the one way sign which was literally next to us but he didn't look and instead gave me another earful of b@llocks.

And well done for not reacting. The world is full of idiots:

I used to get this sort of shit all the time when I was a cycle commuter. I soon found out that losing my cool and arriving at work angry and stressed out was not good for my mental health, so I made a conscious effort to ignore it and ride on.

That said, on the odd occasion I still shout obscenities, but I never stop to confront anyone. IMHO not worth stopping your bike in the road in case some numpty drives into it, claiming that you're a crash-for-cash scammer and stopped on purpose to cause a collision.
