Right quick one, restriction I thought runs out on the 14th, this is the 33bhp one we're talking here. Checked the DVLA website and it says 13th. Its 2 years from day of passing, which was 14/9/12, here's a screen grab...

https://i.imgur.com/YceUT8B.jpg

So its actually the 13th? Could that be because of a leap year? Reason I need to know is I pick up my new bike on Saturday based off this information, and its not even close to 33bhp so I just want to know I'll be legal with it on Saturday? Restricted until the 13th implies that at midnight on the friday (12th) I'll become unrestricted?

Sorry for such a dull question etc, thank you very much though.

To me that says that as of 00.01 13th September you will be able to ride whatever you like.

But it is a little ambiguous and it is just my opinion.

Wow so I just rang the DVLA.... Apparently its the 14th I'm restricted to still. The lady says its effectively midnight on the 13th, so I get my restriction removed at 00.01 on the 14th... But that makes no sense, why would they put the 13th? And she even states it says the 13th, yet apparently it means I'm still restricted all that saturday until the 14th?!

Ring another person at the DVLA and I expect you will get a different answer.

At this point I'm a bit fucked. Already switched insurance. My current bike swaps to new bike at 10.30 saturday morning.

And the dealership is closed sunday.... And I need it for work sunday....

So I'm left with the prospect of hanging out at the dealership until 00.01 on the fucking 14th?!

Its quite clear...

You are restricted until the 13 Sept. So that means it drops off on the 14th.
It would help if it stated your new limit was from 00:01 on xx. Although given you will have passed your test at some point during the day. You could argue its 2 years from the time you passed your test...

Although be honest. I would not bother... Just don't go stupid on the 13th when you pick your new bike up Thumbs Up

How is this hard to understand?

Pass on the 1st of January 2012 (if they were open), you'd be restricted for two full years, up to and including December 31st 2013, and a big boy on 1st January 2014.

Pass on the 14th Septemebr 2012, be restricted until and including the 13th September 2014.

That said: ride it home, what's going to happen?

I'd be more concerned about your insurance. What date did you tell them?

That says until 13th September. That means your restriction ends 23.59 12th september.

Definition :

Until :up to (the point in time or the event mentioned

You are restricted up to 13th September, on that date you can ride what the hell you want.

10.30 on the fucking 13th. Exactly when the insurance switch happens.

I think I'll drop my bike off then, and go into town for the evening, ask them to leave it out back and just ride home after midnight on it. I don't want to ride home with an invalid licence for the bike etc, I know for a fact I'll get pulled by the first police car that has ANPR and can see that its not on the MIB database yet and wants to check everything is legitimate.

Does it say that on the website though? It just says until.

Thats what I thought and some other people here, but others, and the DVLA woman, say its still the 14th... If it was the 14th they would put restricted until 14th surely not restricted until 13th

Use of the definition of the word shows us what until means. They do not, in this case state "until and including" which they should, if that's what they mean ...

Sorry but I would read it as the restriction applies up to and including the 13th, which would be a far more sensible way of wording it.

They will not be able to check if your bike is restricted or not without pulling it to bits. Seriously just pick the thing up and ride it. You have to provide no proof of restriction. It doesn't matter what a cop says, never admit to being unrestricted.

A dealer isn't going to leave a bike out back so you can pick it up at midnight (unless they're stupid).

The only way you're going to get caught is if you tell the police it's unrestricted or you have an accident big enough for them to pull it apart. I'd bet at least 80% of people rode unrestricted for 2 years (including a good friend of mine), nevermind riding it once.

If a sale is on until the 13th, then it includes the 13th.
If a voucher is valid until the 13th, then it can still be used on the 13th.

In my experience of life, anyway.

If the restriction is ("restricted until") the 13th, and does not say when on the 13th it ends, then I'd have to assume it ends at the stroke of the 14th (e.g. it applies all day).

I can see the ambiguity though, and the blame lies with those who chose to word it in such a way that it can be ambiguous.

I wouldn't care one fuck and I would ride the bike anyway, pretending I know nothing about said ambiguity, by the way.

Chance it, and if you get caught show them the ambiguous screen grab and play innocent. Only problem now is that there's evidence of you getting advice on the internet!

Of course ignorance of the law is no excuse but you might get lucky!

On the other hand there's only a very remote chance that you'll get pulled on the one day that your restriction runs out.

Trust me, the better option is just to lie and insist it's restricted rather than potentially admitting that you may or may not be riding legally.

Even if they want to check it don't you get to pick a more convenient time or something, like Sunday after noon, after you removed the restriction, because, well you know - "license says I'm unrestricted"...

Had my restrictors in for way longer than I needed to, bout a week is enough kept mine in for about a year and got bored took em out and just didn't act like a complete nob.

Unless you plan on doing 12's through a 30 zone I'd imagine you'll be fine.
