Any igniter (cdi) units and a rectifier / regulator for an early 90s Monster / SS with the single phase alternator please?

Nope, but in the same vein I don't suppose anybody has a coil for an 885 Speed Triple they don't need either?

These people do an aftermarket igniter which is significantly cheaper than the OEM version:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CDI-ECU-Ducati-Monster-Pantah-Paso-Sport-Strada-SS-SL-Blackbox-Ignitor-CD6901D-/231114174615?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35cf7a7097

They also do a double version:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DOUBLE-CDI-ECU-Ducati-Monster-Pantah-Paso-Sport-Strada-Blackbox-Ignitor-CD6902-/231114176183?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35cf7a76b7

For a few quid more you can pick up a programmable dual unit from these people:

https://www.ignitech.cz/en/vyrobky/tcip/tcip.htm

Are you sure it's the igniter and not the pickup though? The pickups are know to give problems. Test carefully before you spend.

Aftermarket pickups here:

Aftermarket reg/rec from the same site:

I've got 1 for a 955i Sprint ST circa 2000. Is this the same?

Hi Gareth,

Thanks for that. its not unfortunately. This is a pain because my bike is 'missing' when it gets hot. I've tested all 3 coils when cold and they are fine, so I want to get hold of one to substitute when hot until I find the duff one. I may have to put my hand in my pocket...

Are you sure they aren't the same? According to this ebay advert they are.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Daytona-T595-955I-Speed-Triple-885-955I-Sprint-RS-ST-Tiger-885I-HT-Coil-/351107520624?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item51bfa39870

I have 3 coils from my old sprint, one has a crack in the top but it still worked fine. They fit above each plug and have 2 low voltage wires each.

Let me know either way. I'm in York but can send one on to you if it helps. Was going to sell them on ebay but never got round to it so far. Rolling Eyes

Hi Gareth,

Mine are

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Ignition-Coil-900-Trophy-Trident-Daytona-Speed-Triple-PVL-like-Nology-/301283011889?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item4625dded31

which aren't 'top of plug' coils unfortunately. I wonder if the advert is wrong or whether that type can actually be used on an 885?

Islander, thanks for the helpful searches.
The existing pick ups have a resistance of about 100 ohms at present, varying by about 20 ohms as the crank rotates. Would this seem ok do you suppose?

IIRC they should be 90-110 ohms so they do sound ok. They can break down as the engine heats up though so it's worth testing them both cold and hot. Another potential issue is the air gap (the gap between the sensor and the triggering magnet on the rotor) but if it was running OK this isn't something I'd suspect.

The alternator seems to be giving out a reasonable voltage but I think the rect' reg has packed up. It then fried the battery (boiled dry!) and, I suspect, the igniters.
It does spark on turn on but not when connected to the pickups...

Reg/rec failures are common on Monsters - easy to diagnose though. Do check the connectors for corrosion, especially if the side pods have been removed.

It's possible that one or both of the igniters have been damaged. Do you know anyone else with a Monster? If so you could swap them over one at a time to prove the fault.
