I felt nervous on my brush up lesson before the test and I thought I rode crap.
But everything I did wrong that day i learnt from and didn't do the same mistakes again on the test.
Main things to remember are road position, speed, indicators, don't get too close to traffic in front and do observations when you need to, not when you think examiner wants to see one.
I had a bad habit of being up cars arses and often found myself sat 2 inches away rom them at lights.
I also had a bee in my bonnet about shoulder checks.Like i did too many. But i kept them to a minimum and the instructor said i was fine with them.
Part one i found hard. But i did mine with no practice lessons.I just turned up on my 125 and hoped for the best.
I was much more nervous doing part one than two.If you can relax then both are fairly easy.
You just have to take the view that you will pass whether its first time or second or third.
With luck it will be first.
Good luck and listen to your instructor (or instructer Razz ) and you'll be fine.

So, to summarise, listen to your instructer (I'm American Wink )

I didn't aim that part as a jibe. It was serious. Nobody here has seen your riding, there is no one bit of advice fits all in these circumstances. They will look at what you do and advise accordingly.

Listen, take it in and act. Then you can join the rest of us grumpy old sods.

It was good advice but i think the dictionary part upset him Smile
Riding with an instructor Smile is pretty much how it will be riding with the examiner.
You just hear instructions and you follow them. You might get a bit nervous too which prepares you for the test.

I did mine with no practice as I said, so with a bit of practice, which I would imagine you've had or will have ? it should be easier.
Also I took mine on a 125 which made getting up to speed harder and the braking was terrible on mine.
Just watch loads of youtube vids about mod 1.It really helped me get to know the course even though I'd never seen it before.
I think its just nerves that can get you.I was a bit wobbly which made it harder.
But technically its not hard and its probably less confusing when you are there than it looks on youtube.
You just have to make sure you listen to instructions or you can make a silly mistake.

Use all the time on your 125 to practice your slow speed maneuvers. Do it religiously.

U turns, practice them until you get them flawlessly in two and a half carpark bays.

Figure of 8, practice these too and try get them tight as possible.

If you practiced hard mode on your 125, the test will be easy, cause the size of the U turn is something like 3 and a bit carpark bays, and the figure of 8 you get quite a bit of room to do it... But it's always good to overcompensate to make the test easier and less stressful.

Practice your E-Stops. Just getting a feel for not bottling it when you're adding the pressure to the front brake, as well as the feel for accelerating suddenly in a short distance. As for timing the E-Stop, you could have a mate hold up his hand for you like the instructor would, but doubt it's necessary because if you're confident with the front brake, and can get up to speed, you'll likely be able to react quickly on test.

The rest is easy stuff compared, most of it is nerves, so just prepare yourself mentally and have a few practice sessions and your instructor will clean up the rest of your bad habits.

Edit: Mod 2 is easy.

Hi thanks for the info meef . Just been out to practice the you turn could not find a car park with space but found an old road i knew they used to test the u turn on . Pretty much nailed it easy every time evan with the odd bunny hop still got round easy

. Not sure if car park be as easy as the road with curbs . The slow walking ride can do as used to this in traffic .
So its just the saloon and the figure of 8 but cant really practice them can u ? just have to wait till sat for training . Any info on the speed trap or the swerve on the 600 cc ?

Not to concerned about the front brake as i use mine most time anyway instead of back and brake quite hard as i rince every bit of speed the ybr has at 60 few cars pulled out lol iv herd storeys about should not use back on test coz of skidding ?

For the swerve and the E-Stop for the speed-trap just make sure you're throttling off after the first set of cones before the speed trap. Stay in 2nd gear (I did, you will definitely hit 50km/h) I did a 63km/h E-Stop like this and the stop was rather long because of the excessive speed, but it didn't matter because I stopped safely. You do not get a minor for going over the speed limit, but I think a couple km/h less and you'll get a minor, and anything significantly under 50km/h you'll get a major/instant fail.

So get up to speed and don't be afraid to whack the throttle on, chop it off at the first set of cones, ignore other cones and wait for the hand signal and stop safely.

As for the swerve, no braking, get up to speed, try not to go too fast, but yeah aim to go around the outside cone and you'll get it bang in the middle. If you aim to go round the inside cone you could end up hitting it instead of going round it (fail). The swerve is easier than the E-Stop cause you can stop any distance you like (more gently) so long as your bike is between the cones.

Definitely use 99% front brake on the E-Stop, rest your foot on the rear brake do NOT apply pressure, automatically your foot will move forward under the force of the braking from the front, meaning you'll automatically use some of the rear brake anyway. You will be nervous and use too much rear brake and that's not worth risking.

My advice would be to extract as much as possible from YouTube - a good place to start is to search for 'Mod1', then look at some of the suggested clips that follow.

You also need to master the art of observations at all times - even though you are certain there are no other vehicles on the course, or moving away from a fence, you still need to do your normal obs when moving off - even when you are just pushing the bike from one parking bay to another!

There are some good helmet-cam clips from the rider's perspective, as well as some useful distance shots so you can see how it looks from the examiner's perspective.

The Keith Code video 'Twist of the Wrist' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVWLIfChUwg is also a good source for general riding tips and tricks - again following some of the suggestions that show up on YouTube.

Some good clips can be found on the Roadcraft Nottingham channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7cTUIwR1FuvMplHdHNDGug

Sounds really obvious and might sound stupid advice but what helped me on MOD 1 was once saw the actual course is that you just totally ignore one side of the course as it is done either left or right handed.

Once half the cones are effectivley removed it seems to make more sense.

Helped me anyway so hope it's a bit of help to you too.

Best thing to do is take each section 1 at a time.

When asked to ride in gates... concentrate on that, and only that (doing checks)
ride round and park in bay.... only think about this etc etc

and each time you finish a section forget about it, and think ONLY of the next instruction given to you.
Even if you think you made a mess of something.... dont dwell on it for a second.

You could fail if you over think it, or still thinking of the U turn you fecked up when doing the E stop for example.
Good luck Wink Thumbs Up

Mod 2 is easy.
I was nervous as hell but if I can pass its easy.
Just got to make sure you know what speed the roads are and not keep riding and stopping up peoples arses. But apart from that its just ride as you normally would do.
