Shock bushes.

OK so I bought some shocks off ebay for my yam xj550 project but they don't seem to fit.

They were cheap so its not a huge deal but the seller is saying
there doesn't need to be steel inserts in the top eyes as they 'already on the bike' - really ??

ID needs to be 14mm and OD 21-22mm so not a lot to play with. Replacements seem to be OD 24mm for that size ID.

Suggestions anyone ?

The inner rubber should be protected by a thin bush to stop the bush tearing. See if you can find some . Otherwise , it will work but the rubbers may shred early.

Run a 14mm drill bit through the core. See if it can be done without shredding the core to bits which I suspect it will.

Then if that fails, find some 14mm ID tubing, & drill the core of the bushing out further to just under the OD of said tubing. Use some araldite to lube it up a bit & press the new core in with a vice.

Perhaps this would do it. 2mm wall thickness & a 16mm outer diameter ought to equate to a 14mm ID?

Thanks for the replies. I see that some of the cheaper bush sets use thin nylon inners myabe soem of that and some silicone grease might
get me out of a hole.
