There isn't a new £10k bike that ticks all my boxes, but I could easily find 4 £2k bikes that (collectively) would. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

I already have a £2k bike that ticks most of the boxes for me, but yeah, more than one cheaper bike would be my answer. If I had no bikes, and you gave me 10 grand to spend only on bikes, no way would I blow it all on one new one.
But also, 10 grand gives you other options. How about one newer bike at, say, £6k, and two others at £2k each? ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I'm going for the 2 £4k bike option that isn't there.
Probably something like a WR450F to go with with my Triple. |

nail on head there IMO!
But the more than 2bikes thing for many people is not a deliberate action, as again IMO people who have more than 2bikes as a very general rule either are collecting bikes, restoring bikes, or buying cheap bikes that are offered to them or even working on bikes to make a few quid.
I can't think of a modern up to £10k bike that would be perfect for what I'd like? The Ducati monster 1200 has been recommended to me, but I'm not sure how good modern EFI fueling and electronically managed power deliveries would feel compared to a crisp well set up carbed bike?
I could certainly have a nice project V-max and a huge list of performance parts and upgrades to gain handling and lose weight for £10k though! |

On the other hand, it could buy you quite a nice '98 - 2002 Fazer 600 (just an example, may not be your cuppa), which is a good reliable all-rounder. I'm sure others will be able to give you many more examples of at least reasonable stuff you could get for £2k. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

When I had a CBF1000 for a couple of months (9.5k new), I couldn't understand why anyone would spend that much on a bike.
2(ish) grand can get you some tidy bikes, people thought my bike was new, you know before the smashings
Anyway my shopping list:
Yamaha DT
Hornet
KTM Duke
And whatever sporty thing gets me the most clunge...
I've no knowledge of such things ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

I can't countenance having fewer than 2 bikes. Mrs Borg can't countenance me having more than 2 bikes.
A good compromise leaves everyone unhappy. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

£10K's worth of biking? What would I do?
Probably NOT spend it on bikes. Bikes to me is toys, so I wont buy one on credit; if I don't have the cash to buy a bike, I cant afford it. If I had the cash to afford it, then? Lot of things, more important and or more useful in my daily life, that would beg that spend before a motorbike; like a new dishwasher, or a whole new kitchen, or paying off half of what's left on my mortgage.
So, when I DID have a little cash hand few years back, not quite enough to make a dent the mortgage, or do any significant home improvements.. going to get a battery for the 750, I was momentarily tempted by a Blackbird.... Idea of buying something I didn't have to faff ad fuck with, just turn the key ad ride, did sort of have appeal... but, puritanical conscience struck, and notion was quickly dismissed on the grounds that I wouldn't get any huge pleasure from owning a 'fastest on the planet' bike, not a very much more from riding it, and not much at all, paying fr the things upkeep. Spurred me to look at slightly more 'sensible' options, like a VFR, which was dismissed as far TOO sensible... so in the end.. I bought a bunch of old 125 Super-Dreams and a rider-training course for Snowie, and treated the 750 to a load of service spares and some new handlebars 750 does all I really need a bike to, and delivers plenty of fun for the money; while pratting about with tiddlers delivers even more.
Different bikes for different jobs? Yup, already got that. Have the 750 as all round work-horse; Montesa for mud-fun, and tiddlers as 'something' to play spanners with. And for a lot less than budget.
So if you told me you'd give me £10K, if I would sell every bike I already have and put the whole lot into ONE brand new bike... I think I'd probably tell you to eff-off. I'll stick to what I got! There REALLY isn't a lot in the show-rooms that gets me particularly exited. And certainly not exited enough to get rid of bikes I have had decades and am rather attached to!
If you were to give me £10 for ONE bike, and one bike only, no other caveot? I still probably wouldn't buy anything new; I'd probably sink it into a classic, preferably one bought in instalments as I restored it; something a little more inspiring than a 125 Super-Dream, I could do to concourse; I don't know, a Z1 maybe, Bridgestone Super-Six perhaps, or BSA Rocket III... Would £10K be enough to get my hands on a Craig Vetter Truimph Hurricane X75? Or at least major parts of one? Even in card-board boxes, I don't care!
Alternatively, as its 'free' money, might be tempted to have a crack at some sort of show-custom; definitely not Harley based; but something cross-genre 'different'... maybe lop a couple of VFR750 engines up and make a 'double-engine' V8, in some sort of muscle-bike style chassis... or take a 'new' mini super-charger and an old-air-head BMW R80 and do some sort of brat-chop-retro-cafe 1939 TT tribute 'special'.
BUT... if you just handed me £10K? I cold almost guarantee, little if any would get spent on anything motorbike related, let alone a motorbike...
Though I suppose might build me a nice double-garage come work-shop... that could be deemed 'bike related' I suppose.. might even be enough in there to plumb a decent work-shop compressor, maybe a few air-tools to go on it, and maybe even a couple of roll-cab to keep them in. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
