Well looking at changing the fork oil as this is the last thing on my list to stop the front wheel having a slight wobble/weave at slow speed and slight vibration at speed. Will also be making sure I make sure the levels are correct to the last drop.

So as the bike is a big hefty Varadero and I'm a big hefty bloke just wondering which oil to use.

Standard is SAE 10W, so you could try 15W or 20W for a harder ride.

Wobble and vibration most likely caused by wheel balance though.

Done all the wheel stuff, disc, bearing, wheel balance, etc. Have been told it is the forks and most likely the oil levels. I did do the bushes a while ago but had a wobble before and after because of discs so changed the discs and had everything else done except the oil.

Hi

Stick to standard. The fork oil affects the speed the forks compress rather than how much they compress, so with thicker oil when you brake for a corner they will still go down as far, just take longer to do so, and longer to rebound when you let the brakes off for the corner.

Someone had put thick oil in the forks of the ZZR600 we have. Really screwed the handling up.

If you want slightly stiffer forks then use a touch more fork oil. This reduces the air gap, and that air gap acts as an air spring in the forks.

As to the wobble, do you have a top box? Is there any play in the rear suspension?

All the best

Keith

The rear top box does affect the bike but only at about 40mph then goes away.

Put a new rear shock on and it didn't make a difference. The old one was buggered, the new one was second hand but of a 7,000 mile bike. so practically brand new.

Oil is the last thing, the final last thing is a new front tyre, then I have run out of things to do other than new forks.

Hi

Quick thing to try, slacken off the top pinch bolts and the wheel spindle, then bounce the forks up and down hard several times. If the forks are a touch twisted in the yokes this should straighten them. Then tighten the bolts up again.

Then again, you will need to do this when you whip the forks out to change the oil.

All the best

Keith

A new tyre might do it you know...
Maybe steering head bearing, have you checked that?

+1 on standard oil.
I trust Honda engineers to be a better judge of what to use on the road than me. If the rebound is too slow it could lead to your front tyre skipping over bumps in a corner and losing grip.
