Hi all
Been a while since I was on the forum, but having rebuilt the engine on my 1984 Honda CB125 TD (with much help from all, esp. Mike - many thanks) and got it going back in 2010/11, I needed a bigger workshop space to do the rest of the bike and that's taken a some time to get established.
Anyway, I am back on the job and have stripped the complete frame to clean it up, but have a problem with the centre stand. Although it was OK to stand the bike on, it was actually half-hanging off the frame when not in use, with the ends of the stand pivot/axle rotted through and unusable. I had to hack-saw off the knackered bit to get the stand out of the frame. Attached is a picture of the centre stand off the frame.
Looking at the parts schematic, it looks like the stand pivot / axle is a separate piece that goes through the stand. Is that the case? If so, then I ought, theoretically, to be able to get the bit in the picture marked with the arrow knocked back through the stand? It's pretty well rusted in, but if I know it should come out I will persevere. However, if it's all one piece, then I have to find a replacement stand from somewhere - which looks to be tricky.

Yes, the pivot s a seperate tube, and they do rust into the pressing.
Getting them out of the stand when corroded in place is nie on impossible to get out the stand pressings without mangling it.
Best bet is to try slitting the stand pivot from the inside, threading a hacksaw through it, makig 2 or three cuts and trying to ply out the leaves.
BUT it's desperation mechanics; and the stand is prone to warping anyway. AND they are nie on unobtanable new, and few used are useable.
Salvage is to get the foot-rest & stand bracket from a CD200 Benley or other derivative. Take a hack-saw to the foot-peg bar, and lop them off, to leave you the side stand that then bolts to the bottom of the engine.

Could you saw that off flush then get a machine shop to run a big bore drill bit right through and out the other side?

From my experience trying t salvage some of these little fukkers, the theory is sound.... but, its something like a 14mm bore.... and the stand pressing is flimsy as fuck. The legs are prone to twisting just rolling the bike on and off the stand; you'd as like bend or break the bugger just trying to clamp the thing t the machine bed, let alone trying to resist the torque of cutting into it with such a big cutting head!
Couple I tried to salvage were so mangled, in the process, I was down to met-fab trying to splice and brace the legs and rebuild the yoke at the pivot, to the conclusion it was going to be easier to weld up a whole new stand from 'fresh'... a mini project I admit I gave up on.... as I happened to have a CD200 foot-peg bracket to hand, and paddock stands if I need to prop one upright for 'work'.
I dot get angry easily or very often.. but there is a dent in the fence at the top of the garden, where a much welded CB125 super-dream stand was lobbed in rage of frustration and futility!
