Worth a punt for a bit of fun?

Quite fancy keeping the old Gixxer but getting a smaller CC bike for a bit of fun and noticed these coming out soon.

I want to test ride one. They can do 100mph apparently Razz But they are nothing more than slightly more powerful Ninja 300.
I've seen some tests and the brakes on those are quite poor. It's not a mini racing machine I expected it to be. Initialy RC390 was very promising, but its performance was clearly sacrificed to make it A2 legal.

Nearest dealer doesn't know when they'll get any and is a 140 mile round trip. Given the problems with the Indian bikes, that's a deal breaker, ladies. Crying or Very sad

If I had Alyson Hannigan stored in the garage, I'd do more than look.

Thank you for that Josef Fritzl insight. Not freaky at all, honest Wink. Just glad it wasn't Alyson Hannigan. Totally different person obviously and not the one on your restraining order. I'll stick with Michelle Trachtenberg in the dungeon garage Very Happy

On topic I guess people have forgotten/forgiven that KTM were dubbed with an unreliable tag 10 or so years ago after turning down Ewan and Charly Thingy road of bones trip. IIRC they doubted their bikes (and/or the riders) would make it and didn't want to be associated with a failure*. To be fair I asked this before.

To me KTM have always been niche bikes that required tlc. That's not what I want or need.

Thumbs Up

I'm still not sure what it's 'trying' to be - it's very much a CBR250R rather than 'rr' style commuter it seems.

If I wanted a fun bike, I'd buy a 2 stroke 250 - you'll do much better on depreciation / fun.
If I wanted a boring bike with similar specs that was a bit better/funner - CBR250RR. Again, may well appreciate in value.

after looking at this:

https://www.ktm.com/gb/supersport/rc-390/highlights.html#.VBiFvuktC1s

and then this:

https://www.ktm.com/gb/supersport/rc-125/highlights.html#.VBiFz-ktC1s

I think its a bit disgusting that MSRP think the extra 250ccs should cost £2 each.
must be to cover the additional R&D Laughing Rolling Eyes .

Having seen KTM's sporty 125 offering... I'd decline.

WTF is with those headlights. Laughing

And also.

Is the lighting kit and plate on the exc: https://www.ktm.com/gb/enduro/300-exc-six-days/highlights.html#.VBiLUuktC1s

really worth the extra £900 on top of the xc:

(Fixed link)
what am I missing here? Confused

To be fair to the testers and magazines ect I think they are saying that the KTM represents what the likes of the TZR, LC,KR1 ect did meaning they are something for the youngsters to aspire to riding when they get the right licence.
I don't think the likes of Michael Neeves who has probably ridden more bikes than all of us put together is actually saying the KTM is the same as the above mentioned in terms of power and handling.

For me the reviews of spot on, KTM are building bikes or trying to that appeal to the yoof and at least they are trying to get yougster into bikes, them and Aprillia who have always produced desirable bikes for younguns.

Fair play the KTM looks tidy and if I was a young lad I'd be putting that poster and my wall.
Thumbs Up

You're missing:
That you've used the same link.
That the XC and EXC are different models for different purposes.
That you've linked to the EXC 'six days' edition, which is a good bit more expensive than the normal EXC - it's their "even more race ready and some graphics kit" version.

EXC is meant for enduros and more - so long distance multi-terrain races.

XC has typically been half way between the motocross SX and enduro EXC - intended for a bit shorter events with less varied action than the EXC, but still more than you'd find on a motocross track.

Oddly, the XC actually weighs more than the EXC - normally it's less. It also has a higher seat and bigger tank (again, odd). It costs £250 less than the 'normal' EXC.

Be interesting if anyone is actually brave enough to buy one after the failed abortion that was the duke 125..

People are stupid though so I'm sure they will sell.

I might be getting confused between the 390 and the 125 reviews MCN has done recently. But getting false neutrals and the bike leaving the test on the back of a recovery truck due to knackered gearbox doesn't inspire confidence. Or the mirrors which vibrated loose.

Ninja 300 is down on power and up on weight too.

The EU sucks balls. A2 license, Euro III. We have the tech advancement of 20 years and the bikes still can't match the 90's 400's.
