Sorry for the boring topic. I've got some birthday cash I want to buy a bit of new bike gear with.
At one time for riding a supermoto on the road or just a KMX, I figured that I would need to wear MX boots and an open face MX type helmet just to fit in and look like I knew what I was doing haha!
I don't need or want to walk around in hot heavy sweaty armour plated off road boots, and I don't like open face lids for road use, so I was just being a twat admittedly.
But my nice Arai Quantum F despite being a great helmet (best I've had) and still being in good condition having done less than 10k, is 13years old now, and I think a new lid wouldn't be a bad idea?
I know comfort is the key when choosing a lid, and then quality, over price or style or brand whoring.
But I've always liked the aggressive looking Simpson Bandit, and if I can get a comfy fit in one then I want one!
I know I don't have the required Streetfightered oil boiler GSXR 7/11 with a turbo and Nitrous, or a serious air cooled four with a Vance&Hines 4-1 megaphone and airshifter tank on the other side though.
May have a V-max one day if that is acceptable dress code for these lids though?
But seriously, has anyone got one of these lids, and are they comfortable for say 100-150mile day trips. What are they like for quality and wind noise?
Finally how much of cunt or not do you look wearing one on a ring ding 125? |

I've been wearing Simpson lids since about 1981, starting with the original RX1.
Plenty of air flow through the permanently open vents in the front, they can get a bit draughty when the weather turns cold and they're noisy and heavy, compared to modern bike lids.
I find them very comfortable, or at least I did, until I tried on a brand new one at Excel earlier this year; sadly, the lovely soft lining has made way for something that feels like it's made of granite.
I still think the design is an absolute classic (forget the Craft rip offs, they look like what they are, cheap copies) but unless I discover the one I tried was an aberration, I won't be buying another.
Edit: nearly forgot, they aren't that easy to buy now, since GPR stopped being the official importer, very few people stock them and you really want to try before you buy, some folk do find them an acquired taste. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........
