My MOT has expired on the KMX, and after having spent several weekends messing about with the lighting/bulbs, I now have working LED bulbs in my indicators.

But though I've ordered some individual LED's to make a working tell tale bulb replacement, for now I just put in an LED bulb which obviously only flashes when then left side indicators are working. I know I need to build a dual LED set up with them fitted in opposite polarity to each other.

But is it an MOT fail if the tell tale only works when LHS or RHS indicators are working?

Cheers.

Tape over it. But no, so long as you can see them from seat.

Taping over any and all indication lights on an instrument panel or dashboard is an automatic fail nowadays, if the lamp was originally there it has to work but I suppose it comes down to the tester and where the bike is tested

I can remember taking the indicators of the bikes and taping up the indicator switch when they failed to work just to get a bike through MOT but the feckers changed the rules on that one as well.

Is that a fact?

General test procedures.

Motorcycle test procedure.

Surprise me.

1.5 Direction Indicators

The actual manual, with my highlighting, wrote:
2. Operating the indicators see that the operation of each front indicator is readily visible from the riding position or that the ‘tell tale’ is operating correctly

Note: If the indicators can be seen from the riding position there is no need for a ‘tell tale’ to operate.

Enfield passed with LEDs and the idiot light bulb removed. Fugitive from the law.

I have my tests done in N.I where things work a little differently, we have to take the bikes to a government test centre where the testers are all civil servants who are paid to fail the bikes/cars not to pass them and these buggers stick to the rules like glue or make them up as they go along. I do not have the luxury of taking my bikes/cars to my mates garage where anything will pass, that is just the way things are here.

For now. We'll doubtless turn it into some massive bureaucratic TUV-Euro nightmare when given our Freeeeedom.

If you can see the front indicators flashing from the seat, then it shouldnt be a problem.
