I have a couple of long running searches on the go for very obscure motorcycles. One pops up maybe every six months or so and I haven't yet seen one I'd want to bid on.

Over the last four days, if it's found nothing (which let's face it, is why most people would want email notifications on a saved search), it's been ignoring the category (so motorcycles and scooters) and reporting EVERYTHING that fits the search criteria in all categories. Which is a lot of stuff, thousands of items.

ebay help centre is no help at all. I wonder if anyone else is having this problem and if anyone has found a workaround. I can't have it reporting 4-500 new hits a day, I'll never know if the item I'm looking for will come up again.

This is the main one I'm having trouble with:
(minsk, motobeno, regent) -reliant -wedding -bus -caravan -van -camper -volvo

Code:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Cars-Motorcycles-Vehicles-/9800/i.html?_from=R40&_adv=1&_sadis=200&_ipg=50&LH_SALE_CURRENCY=0&_udhi=600&_ftrt=901&_udlo=0&_ftrv=1&_geositeid=3&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_mPrRngCbx=1&_nkw=%28minsk%2C+motobeno%2C+regent%29+-reliant+-wedding+-bus+-caravan+-van+-camper+-volvo&_trksid=m194&ssPageName=STRK:MEFSRCHX:SRCH

ebay has been busy "fixing" things over the last week, i couldn't log on for two days, when i finnaly did everthing was horribly slow and often clicking things wouldn't result in anything happening.

i did notice whilst hovering over the my ebay link that the status bar showed my ebay beta in it, and the main ebay landing page has changed from being stuff suggested from your item search historyto "edgy" fashon and design quotes/ link.

they are not admitting it is them altering the site causingproblems because they don't want to refund fee's for listings that sold to cheap because people that might have bid couldn't.

I can only get it to limit to Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles, using this I get the 2 hits.

I'm not sure if it's because the sub-category is empty that I can't limit or if limiting to a sub-category isn't possible.

edit - just tried limiting to "caravans" and it's fine, so sub's are allowed (as expected) so unless there is a hit I'm not sure how you can edit it, can you change the url or the search?

Does this work?

Nope. It does an "all categories" search.

Seems to just revert to searching "all categories" if it finds nothing in the original category. The emails me with all of those.

The "return to original search" button which used to force it back to the original category does nothing either.

Thing is I want a null result most of the time. I only want telling when my item turns up, not when an item which is utterly unrelated but has a similar name turns up.

I've posted this to ebay too but I don't expect too much by way of response or help.

Meh. I'll just cancel the search and they can loose the sale if one ever does turn up because I wont know about it.

Been happening for a while, you have to search "uk only" not "on ebay uk (now "default").

Yeah I noticed it on normal searches but not saved ones until recently (when the format changed)
