Eye sight test in motorbike test

Is there an eye sight in the motorbike test and if so what does it involve? Cheers.

yes - you just have to read out a numberplate from across a car park to the examiner... not quite sure on the official distance.

Seriously, if your eyesigt were so bad that you couldn't read a plate at that distance you shouldnt be allowed anywhere near anything capable of more than 2mph

just think of the distance as 10 bike lengths, not far at all!

The highway code says you must be able to read an old-style number plate from a distance of 20.5 metres (67 feet) in good daylight. With the new style ones, it's 20 metres.

Hi

20m is the 2 second rule at about 22mph. So if following at 30mph with a 2 second gap and can read the registration of the vehicle in front then you should pass the test.

20m is very little distance.

Usually he will ask you to read his number plate waiting at the MOT centre before you get on the bike. It was the first thing I done.

It's suppose to be 67 feet you have to read a standard numberplate, looking directly at it. In most cases the examiner will roughly guess this distance as he/she will have done it loads of times before. I think you get two attempts to read it before the examiner has to measure it out, to the inch!

To be honest, my eyesight is utter shite! It took me three attempts to pass my DAS test and on every test I spent about 5 minutes attempting to read a numberplate. On the test I passed the examiner 'helped' me read the plate! It was like, ' I can see a W, an eight, a P, six, eh....'. Between me and him we constructed what the number was!

Your sight should be checked before you start any training and if you're really that blind, they won't let you go any further.

Don't worry about it and concentrate on the riding!

lol on my cbt the instructer asked me to read a number plate in the car park..was really easy ,it was my own car i found it funny read the plate he said fine then i told him it was my own car so i just did another one but it started the day of well.

Tell you a story:

On 1st test the examiner pointed out a plate to read. I was like "ermmm.....emmmmm P/ X/ £"*$ !!!" . In the back of my mind I was thinking why the hell can't I read this plate??!!?? I knew I could, I had tested myself. Was like s***, test ends here...

Anyway he pointed out another one and I couldn't read that either.

So he was getting frustrated, I could see. But I bet he didn't feel half as bad as I did: my hopes, not to mention £50 going down the drain...

Anyway then he got his gay tape measure out, and measured out exactly 20.5 meters, and I could read it perfectly, first time, 100%

I said "see now that was 20meters!"

What a loser, he had given me much further distances to read.

Failed that one. My lesson guy filed a complaint about the matter.

Bit of a pointless post really, but.... . Just test your eyes before you go for the test.

O and I had the same guy the next time, and I should have failed because I took my hand off the bars, but he didn't see.
