Im in the left of two lanes. Left lane = left turn only (no traffic), Right lane = straight on (stationary traffic)

White van man was either in wrong lane from roundabout 20 metres before or trying to push in at the top which left him in the left hand lane wanting to go straight on. He was sat stationary with right indicator on.

Im approaching behind him and theres enough room to filter past the left hand side of him. Being a learner an all i slow to walking pace and put my feet down to woddle past his wing mirror, at which point im level with his passenger window and its down.

He then horns at me (which shit me up) and shouts something at me (didnt hear what) whilst which he decides hes not changing lane anymore and starts driving forward forcing me to scrub the curb and lose my balance. Thank god i didnt drop the bike but made me look a right tit at the side of the road.

He then shot off up a taxi/bus lane to rejoin the straight on traffic even further up.

Prick still pissing me off since this morning grr

Probably making the retarded assumption that when you are doing is illegal. Grow some thick skin, you'll need it on two wheels. I get wallies like this on a daily basis, especially when I filter past them. I don't particularly like going down the inside of traffic when I'm next to the kerb though, gives me nowhere to go if something like this does happen.

A lesson learned...
When approaching a van in a left-only lane who is indicating right, keep well back as you have no more idea what he will actually do than he has.

Also filtering up the left side of anything in a left turn lane is bloody stupid.

Attached paint diagram as im bored at work...

The traffic lights causing the tailback are terrible though so if the van was going to wait for a gap, i would have been sat behind him for a good minute before traffic moved. The gap was plenty big enough i was just being extra careful by putting my feet down

I'd be concerned about filtering past a big van that is planning on turning right, because the back of it might swing to the left as it makes the turn, wiping you out Shocked

He was more changing lanes rather than a right hand turn and the traffic in the other lane was stationary with nowhere to go with no one letting him in so i knew he didnt have anywhere else to go.

EFA.

If you're going past, get past sharpish.

Being horned hurts less if it's coming from behind; the further behind the better.

tbh I never filter on the left/kerb, reminds me of being a cyclist and how ludicrously vulnerable it is.

Don't filter up inside.

If you're filtering at lights, make sure you can get in front of vehicle long before lights change. And complete manoeuvre sharpish, in case lights do change. And ensure there's room at front, you shouldn't really go past first stop line (ideally), but more importantly, you still need to see the traffic lights.

White van men are almost always shite drivers, give them a wide berth and expect them to do stupid stuff.

And take it steady when you you have two lanes in front, one full of traffic and one empty. Expect some numpty to jump into clear lane and zoom to front.

Did you really just write this in innocence or was it deliberate?

No he didn't. That was me the other day, riding whilst feeling under the weather, reactions all to pot (my excuse), panic braked and dropped the bloody thing. Twat didn't even stop, took one look out their window at me and carried on. Yep, should have known better. Not the first time some twat has pulled a similar move in same place (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo3QijebMYQ)

One of these days, I'll listen to my own advice... Rolling Eyes
Particularly after having just forked out £180 for new fairing (for second time now!) Sad

No, but he caused the bike to alter speed/direction, thus locking the wheel and coming off. Will still be liable.

At first, I thought they were just thinking of filtering down the right, as it splits into two lanes a little way ahead. They certainly weren't turning right. However looking back, I can't help but wonder if it was entirely a malicious move to stop me filtering past...

its large single deck (PCV) busses and LGV Bin motors you need to be watchin.. they have by far the longest rear hang overs.. Vans do have some but @ 3.5t this is of a much lesser danger. Thumbs Up

Did you lay it down on purpose, or just grab a handful of front brake? looks like it would be the drivers fault, moved without indicating/mirrors into a lane that he shouldn't have been in... but insurance people probably wouldn't go for it

All too easy to say we would of done different from the comfort of our armchair - would of probably reacted in the same way myself though.

Hope damage was too severe Thumbs Up

Are you sure he even saw you and wasn't beeping his horn and shouting at somebody in the right hand lane that wouldn't let him in.

Again sorry for the hijack, is there a thread about this somewhere Arfa?

You really should report that incident to the police, don't expect anything to happen, but it's clearly malicious. You may get lucky and get a cop who is interested. At the least he should be looked at for failing to stop as there is no requirement that the vehicles need to have made contact for someone to have caused an accident. It's normally hard to prove as it's one person's word against another, however you have that video.
