Anyone got opinions on these two bikes?

I am after a change from my Kwak er6 which is an 06 plate and I have had for two years.

I commute 20 miles each way, 5 times a week for 10 months of the year.

Basically trying to work out whether the Duke is worth stretching my budget for?

So far I have test rode the monster and was blown away by it. Yamaha test ride is at the weekend. But just wondered if any experienced chapson here had an opinion...

Street Triple or MT09

Either one, do it.

I've always liked the classic Monster and the simplicity of the design. It's a good looking naked street bike in the same way that an Mk1 speed triple is or even an Mk1 Hornet.

I've been recommended to test ride the Monster 1200 as a more modern alternative to a V-max and they do look quite nice. But I like the simpler air cooled 1100cc versions more and I think a late 1100cc would be the nicer more simple machine for me.

The smaller Monster's do look very cool bikes, and the 696 and the 821 are really nice bikes.

If it were me spending that kind of money on a new/newish bike, I'd test ride one, but I think you would have to compare it back to back with the current darling of the performance naked bikes, (Street triple), as that really seems to be the benchmark bike for Monsters, MT09's and anything else in the naked sector really.

Thanks both!

Have got a test ride booked for the street triple on Saturday. And will fit in the yamaha at some point.

The street triple already has an 1.5k advantage!

I had a test ride on one of the smaller Monsters a while back and was left underwhelmed. Felt a bit cheap for my liking.

Having been around Paddy's Street Triple the other weekend I have to admit they are a nice piece of kit. Look to be a better build quality and much more fun to ride Thumbs Up

I love the old Monsters. I'd get an S2R1000 but they rarely come up for sale here.

The hi viz socks outbalance the sexual nature of the footwear.

I also see bare skin on my back and the worlds thinnest camo trousers.

Definitely one of my next bikes when insurance is affordable. My Hornet wheelies well but not like these.

It is definitely a superb bike, would recommend to anyone who wants fun, usability and low insurance/sensible running costs.

Z800, loving mine but will be up for sale very soon Crying or Very sad

Only selling as a business purchase outweighs the bike, but will def buy another in a years time.

Great bike all round.

Tried both the Street triple and MT-09 this weekend...

MT-09 has left me a little bit underwhelmed. It is clearly a good bike and comfortable (up to 90mph). Not sure the seat would be comfortable on a long ride though. 14l tank is not great for commuting really - Stopping to fill up always irritates me.

Street triple was a wet ride, so didn't spend as long on it or be as spirited. It certainly had more character though, but I got off and still preferred the monster.

I think I need to get back on the street triple when it is dry and give it a proper blast. And maybe the monster too, just to make sure I am not thinking it is better than it was!

Probably because it has a better engine. Not quite as sporty chassis though. Depends on your priority.

All twins are gay? Jesus, what the hell does that make funky singles like Iains KTM then?

Would a twin that could pull your street triples pants down and spank it stupid still be gay? And lastly by the same logic is a 3pot bike not just a little bit 1/2way to being gay as it's only just past being a twin and not a god like mundane IL4?

To the OP, I've seen the MT09 and 07 close up, and the more I look at both bikes, the MT07 looks better designed, better built and more interesting/funky. There's also less than 25bhp between them and about 10-15mph top end, so neither is that different it would be night and day?

Smoothness of the triple is nicer than the il4.
Twins aren't that smooth.

I like it smooth.

Iains single is gay, it needs to be on 1 wheel to be less homosex

Decision made and money committed...

Didn't like the mt-09. At higher speeds the wind blast was crazy.

Loved the monster as it is full of character but it is much more expensive, and after an hour I was well aware I had been on a bigish twin so commuting on it would be a pain IMHO. My body would be a wreck on long journeys. Very fun bike though.

I enjoyed Triumph street triple more in the dry and it iis instantly comfortable. Well priced too. So have a red one ordered.

I guess, just like Paddy - I like it smooth.
Cheers all.
