The other half is 5' nothing and would like to take her tests on the Kawasaki Zephyr 550 we have bought. Sounds nice yeah?

H&R have just contacted me saying she has only 45 days to pass from the first day we took out insurance and a copy of a restriction certificate.

Well that's hardly going to happen at the moment.

This bike is apparently only 50bhp from new, but I doubt the examiner or insurers will let it slip, even though in reality the state it's in I doubt it's much more than 40bhp.
Do I really have to use the shitty F1 people for washers that are probably never tested in this actual bike and a pointless bit of paper?

Or does anyone know a training school in the south east that doesn't use ER6/CBR500 so she can actually comfortably learn?

Is Salisbury too far away?
Salisbury Bike Training might be able to help, give em a ring, the boss instructor Freddie is really good & there's a girlie training to instruct which can sometimes be easier to get on with. Wink

Yeah, bit far I'm afraid as I'd have to take her and don't wanna be hanging around all day waiting!

Thanks though.

Why not?

But it's not listed on the DSA's list. Which could play out either way. Cheeky grin, "Sure, we bought it because it's bang on 35kW."

It's really up to the little Tin God what he'll accept as evidence. "A pointless bit of paper" is likely.

.dft.gov.uk, which your DVSA Derek may or may not care about wrote:
You can use machines not on this list or machines that have been restricted to meet the rules to be used if you give certified proof of compliance or restriction to the examiner.

This must be a certificate or on headed paper from an official source such as a main dealer, official importer or recognised specialist in restricting vehicles.

Dyno certificates alone are not acceptable.

Last time I asked, they didn't "recognise" any specialists.

Sorry.

Well lets say it's unlikely to happen in 45 days because of work, and this restriction hurdle.

Really not sure what to do, just turn up to a test and see if they let her?
Find that really unlikely as it's not on the magic list...

fucking 3dld...

1066 land by the way.

How south east are you happy to travel?

I'll always recommend MKMT but unsure on their weapons of choice currently. Call and ask Thumbs Up

My restrictor kit is for 33bhp but if he pm's me I'm happy to find, scan and send so he can see that it looks nothing like the FI ones.

Oooh an offishul cert would be nice! Washers to reduce 1 bhp seem a bit...unlikely to actually only reduce 1.

Thanks Paddy will have a gander.

You really wont need it to be actually restricted. Just a shit letter from a fake company you could have invented with some headed paper you have just made.

It's great how the insurance demand these certs but fail to tell you what is ACTUALLY required.

Alright, shall have a go making my own.

Now to sort out this 45 day bullshit... wonder if I can start it again whenever I want by removing and adding her to it.

But I assume Mr DSA or whatever it is now will be harder to trick.

Anyone got experience with taking a test on a "restricted" bike?

H&R wouldn't accept self fit,

I had to have my local garage sign to say he'd seen the kit and confirm it was fitted correctly - I cocked up putting the carbs back on so he'd actually seen it.

Do you not think they'll accept that certificate then? May as well try though.

45 day limit is the bigger problem though.

They accepted the one from Kickstart after I'd had a garage also sign it to confirm it was fitted correctly.

They didn't question the certificate (some people believe only FI kits and certificates are valid) only the fit.

Legally, self fit is allowed, however insurance companies can choose what they do and don't accept.

Everyone has a friendly mechanic however Smile

Nothing.

FWIW I sent H&R a paint pic. They refused, I said what law requires me to provide, they refused, I pushed the question again, they accepted Laughing

Argue the toss.

Batman?

Even if you do spunk £200 on having some FI super-sekrit washers fitted, with everything signed and certified... you could just take them out.

The big laugh is the assumption from insurers and DVSA that they actually do what they purport to do. Has anyone bothered to dyno a FI / Kickstart restricted bike? I very much doubt it.

I'm with H&R and I restricted my pegaso to 33bhp myself, they accepted a dynamic print out from the local tuning place.

Thanks guys, not so worried about insurers anymore with regards to restriction.

It's the examiner I'm worried about.

Will phone H&R tomorrow and see what the crack is with this 45 day shit.
