I have changed fluid and pads on the brake side of the bike but the clutch is giving me problems.

It's a 1993 900SS.

The clutch lever went floppy, it was sitting for about 5 years unused.

The whole system has had a fluid change and been bled.

No matter how much the clutch is bled there is just a continuous source of new air bubbles but no obvious leaks at the slave or master cylinder?

I was thinking rebuild kit but can't find one for it. The ducati workshop manual says very little about the clutch master cylinder but loads about the brake.. so that's not helpful...

Is it a rebuild kit job, a new master cylinder job and if either of those does anyone have more info on what part numbers, etc... I need?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Just by reputation I would be looking at the slave cylinder first. They were renowned for being short lived.

Not sure if you can get a rebuild kit for the master cylinder (Brembo generally don't do them these days), although generally the complete units are not that expensive to buy. Does the manual give any useful instructions on stripping the brake master cylinder? If so I would expect the clutch to be very similar (I am assuming on a bike that age it still have the ones with the built in fluid reservoir).

Do you have access to an alternative master cylinder?

All the best

Keith

Nice one, thanks Keith Thumbs Up

I might be able to get another one from a friend, if the 750 and 900 share the same clutch system? Not sure about that one...

Would you recommend grabbing one of those £50 slave cylinders from ebay, the billet ones?

Hi

I honestly have no experience of them. There are aftermarket ones that are designed to reduce the lever pressure required.

All the best

Yes but at double the price?!? It is a tricky one since I don't know exactly what the problem is. I guess a slave cylinder upgrade can't be a bad thing?

You want to ride it in London traffic, a lighter clutch would be a good thing.

OK, I'm gonna get this:

If you are round on Sunday, can we do it then?

EDIT: From hong kong...so it won't come by then, I'll find something closer

If you have it by sunday, we'll fit it. Get the last exhaust stud out and paint it, then we can refit that on sunday as well.
