Good bike or not? I'm thinking of bikes that I'd get after passing my test. This bike seems to be good value but is it any good? If anyone knows of any pros and cons that would be a great help.

Thanks

It's an SV650S in a dress. The SV is far cheaper and has many more spares. Buy an SV if you want a 650cc Suzuki.

My local training school uses them for DAS bikes as do a few others I'm told.

As far as I can work out, it's a prolonging the model life of the SV by giving it a swish looking makeover.

It's kind of the opposite of an SV650S in a dress. SV650S has a fairing (of varying sizes), the Gladius does not.

I like it a lot - comfier than the SV and imo better looking. Not sure its as easy to stick a new can on though - have read some bad things about attempts to do so.

2013 model SVF, 0 mile pre-reg, £4000.

How many do you need?

I can't be doing with the riding position. I'd have the SVF650A if I had either.

SVF colours are bleh though. Grey, black, or a sort of mucky Suzuki blue-n-white. It looks apologetic.

It was marketed as a girls' bike. They dropped the gyno-colours along with the Gladius name though. Is SVF650 now, is manly bike for mans.

Girls' bike you say???

My god!!

Can it be true??? I'm not as masculine as I'd presumed.

Only the ignorant would think that Gladius is a girly name. It's Latin for sword, the most masculine of imagery. Just because the sword-shaped flower, the Gladiolus' name is also derived from the word Gladius does not make it girly.

As for improvements from the SV, well it had more power and torque in 2010 (when I bought one) , largely thanks to the improved FI system which came from the GSXR range. I've no idea if that's still true though.

I still think they're a great first bike, a trusty second bike or a good all-rounder and mine will remain in my garage when I finally get round to choosing something else to complement it.

Yes, it has styling issues. Especially the exhaust which is ugly and extremely heavy but a Venom can sorted that on mine for sub £100. TBF, not many bikes nowadays have stock exhausts which are aesthetically pleasing anyway. There are loads of aftermaket bits for them (most of which I've bolted on) and a 8" round headlight improves the front end a lot.

gladius =sword
derivative gladiator
gladiator sandal = gay

hmm you could see why a suzuki exec might think* gladius ah gladiator, manly, kill many things, whereas brits think gladius, hmm flower or something, or that old wummin in the admin office with the 60's specs

*they may not

not even real latin:-
wikipedia
Gladius is generally believed to be a Celtic loanword in Latin (perhaps via an Etruscan intermediary), derived from ancient Celtic *kladi(b)os or *kladimos "sword" (whence Modern Welsh cleddyf "sword", Modern Breton klezeff, Old Irish claideb/Modern Irish claidheamh

I used one for my DAS. Great bike if you are below 5'4 and or have a vagina. Because they sit so damn low it absolutely shattered my back. Power wise, they are okay just don't have much personality to them!

Spend the extra grand and get a ER6 or a Yammy MT07.

Wafer-T-H - Honestly I don't like the look of the SV at all and I tend to prefer naked bikes but it is cheaper and there appears to be more used ones for sale

gdj444 - thanks very much. I'll have a look at that Thumbs Up

Roger - yeah, the colours aren't the best

Thewhyoffry - I'd prefer the Er6n and the MT 07 would be my number one choice but I was looking at this as cheaper alternative.

I was also looking at the MT 03. Any ideas what this bike is like?
