Bit of an urgent problem. This morning when I booted the big PC it started making a noise, as if a loose cable was rattling against a fan somewhere. Worryingly, it seems to be coming from the Corsair water cooler (model number unknown - bought it a while back and didn't note the details) on top of the i7 920. [EDIT: board is an Asus P6TD DELUXE].

Imminent bearing failure?

This comes at a really bad time as I need my PC to be super reliable over the next few weeks. Replace the Corsair just in case, perhaps with something like this?

www.amazon.co.uk/o/ASIN/B0077POH8M

Advice and recommendations sought!

the maybe air trapped in the pump.

Disconnect the power from your hard drives.

Turn pc on

slowly rotate pc 180 degrees

let the air that trapped in the pump move into the rad.

turn pc 180 again

See if it still makes a noise.

Thanks for this. I was too late. Noise got louder then PC turned itself off 20 minutes after my message - I assume overheated. Now typing on my Thinkpad... Have ordered new cooler, will see how that goes <sigh>

1. Remove the Corsair cooler.
2. Throw it over your left shoulder.
3. Replace with an Antec cooler.
4. ???
5. Profit

Hah, unfortunately my other cooler is somewhere in a pile of removal boxes.

I've installed a new H60, which seems to be working without issue at this point. I realised that I built this PC in mid-2009, so the cooler did as well as I could expect - 5 years isn't bad.

Should think about another rebuild next year I suppose. I'd like something with less TDP than this one's 130w...

I look forward to your next thread when that H60 starts making bad noises or the pump dies causing your cpu to cook itself. Wink

The Corsair AIO are very well known for being a pile of junk.

I'm surprised you bought another one, considering your 1st one went to shit.
