Honda Innova 125 semi auto thing I rode doing pizza delivery. That one was shite but it had near 80k on the clock of being dropped and bodged so a testament to Honda quality that it even worked. I reckon a decent one would be good cheap transport.

I bought a 50cc vclic a few months back for next to nothing. Was shite, shoved an 80cc kit on it and it's decent enough as a runaround that costs b-all to maintain/run/tax/insure.

If it's just cheap transport not sure why you'd want more than 125 on a scooter just going to cost more to tax and still not make you grin.

I think it would either have to be a decent maxi scooter or sporty scooter if I was set on a scooter of some sort. Maybe a runner 180 or something.

Though depending on budget there are a good few auto/semi auto bikes about now, that would be my first choice.

Something like this: https://www.motorcyclenews.com/mcn/bikes-for-sale/searchresults/detail/aprilia/mana-850/2008/_/R-NXGN-7628437

Over a scooter any day of the week.

Was looking at scooters earlier, Peugeot Satelis 300 or if you want to gain some attention a Peugeot Metropolis with it's three wheels.

Good luck in finding the right one Thumbs Up

What are your 'needs' regarding said vehicle? Budget?

Could try sniff out a c90 in your area, they're semi-auto and clutch-less.
Any actual 'cool' scooter (read: a Vespa) is outa your ball park on account of your wrist.
First thing I actually owned was a Malaguti 2T thing and surprisingly it was really good.

Meh a scooter is a scooter at the end of the day.

I've not ridden one, but would something like the Yam X-max 250 not be a good option?

As for all scooter's are shit, and all get laughed at, and the folks that would rather spend ££££'s more just to get something that looks more bike than scooter, you sad bastards!

What is your budget and do you want used instead of new?
What do you need to do, and where will it be used?

I think for everyone's commute in 20-50mph area's a decent 125 scooter would be more than capable, but some would rather hang themselves than be seen riding one!

My Peugeot Satelis has broke down several times waited three weeks for a fuel injector, and later three weeks on a replacement rear wheel nut - not reliable like the jap stuff they got the common Piaggio/Chinese parts, its off the road now with an EFI problem the RAC man told me he picks em up all the time wouldn't even try looking for the breakdown problem.

Plenty of options if you... like motorcycles.

You can get a centrifugal clutch for various big bikes like the Hayabusa.
Right hand clutch, possibly with an air shifter that does up and down.
Right-heel operated clutch maybe?

Reckon the C90 or one of it's modern derivatives would be just the job 'cos Mr Honda's original spec said that they should be able to be ridden with only the right hand on the bars. Apparently this was for food delivery riders way back. They used to do the deliveries in Japan on bicycles and Mr Honda reckoned he could sell a Cub to all those bicyclists !!
Now a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then but about 80 million of this style of bike has been made and they seem to be reliable now Razz , even the Chinese ones like the Loncin 110 which you can still get for about £600 new if you try.

I've always fancied an Italjet Dragster 180, supposed to be pretty fast for a small capacity scooter (109kg and 19bhp I think) . They're pretty rare now though and there's not often more than one or two on ebay at a time (I can't imagine parts availability is that great anymore either). Should be within your budget if one does come up though.

If I was being sensible though, I would probably just get a Burgman 400 (or similar) and not really care whether people are laughing at me. You'll still be faster than the "ped-bois" ... Thats about it though Laughing

I ride an SH300, it is in my opinion the single best scooter for London, but appearance-wise, it's not up to much. Looks like a 125, but 2.5x power. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing.

A city with narrower streets and more standstill traffic, and I'd prefer something narrower and light enough that I could change direction by lifting on the handlebars. A city with wider streets and more block structure, I'd be looking at the bigger scooters - T-max and friends - if it has to be a scooter, but I don't think a scooter would still be optimal.

The only circumstances I'd ride a C90 would be (a) the third world, (b) some kind of racing context, for cheaper crashes, or (c) in penniless desperation. But some people feel the same about scooters.

SV650 isn't particularly light.
I'd consider bikes with hydraulic clutches - you may be able to then further modify them to be even lighter.

Small capacity bikes tend to be lighter.

How heavy a clutch feels is related to the clutch springs - lighter clutch springs will mean less force. On that, you could look at getting some really light clutch springs with a lock up clutch. This way you won't burn out clutches when moving with a more powerful bike, but will still have a nice light action.

Damn it, I was going to suggest a supermoto with a rekluse fitted.

My C70 is OK. I went to college with a girl that had a 1960 something C50 with a 140 pit bike engine stuffed in it, that flew! She said it was as much fun as her thundercat. Although I think it had a clutch she bodged onto fit the cub, she then proceeded to remove all scooter stuff from it and eventually took it off the road and races it in some speedway class now.

If you care this much what a few mongs think then you should abandon the idea of buying any scooter immediately.

If, however, you want some useful transport that will be kind to your dodgy wrists then you could do worse than that scabby 400 Burgman that someone linked to above for £600. Unlike the earlier carbed models they have no major known issues, and are as good cruising at 80mph, in comfort and out of the weather, as they are in city traffic. I've had two of them now and while they might not be the most inspiring thing on two wheels they're certainly good at their job.

If you want something a bit more bike-like then the Tmax is available for a bit more money, and if your ego really has got the better of you then there's always the GP800 or the Mana, but with either of those I suspect you'll be spending more time on the bus than you do now Wink

My first two-wheeler was a 8-year-old, dropped-many-times Honda SH125. It just kept going, although the speedo only worked once in a while so I have no idea how many miles were on it when I bought it for about £1,300 (it was showing something like 30K, if I remember right). I put 5-6K on it, through my first winter of commuting, and it never failed me. I part-ex'd it (for what I paid for it) for a less reliable Honda CBF125 when I learned gears.

The main selling point is the large wheels, giving it stability and handling approaching a motorcycle, a useful feature on London's crappy roads. The big wheels mean less under-seat storage than is typical on a scooter. No way would it fit a helmet, or at least none that would fit my head.

Honda makes a 300cc version that I see around a lot. I would consider that if I were in the market for a scooter.
