Turbo charging for dummies?

Theoretically, how hard is it to turbo a bike? I can do basic servicing, and I'm about to undertake the monster job of putting a new exhaust valve in my C90.
Is it just a case of getting a turbo of an old diesel car and making a new exhaust and stuff ( )

What do you need to do/know?

Could I do it in the shed?

Short answer: No. If you need to ask if it's something you can do in your shed then there's approximately zero chance that you can.

They also sell a turbo and most bits to do a conversion. It's not cheap though, will set you back about a grand to do it properly.

Results aren't much better than the power you'd get from a standard Zongshen 155ho engine either, which will bolt straight into your C90.

What about fitting nitrous? I'm going to have a ZZR soon. There's no fucking way I'll need more power than it has, but it's good for spraffing pish doon the pub.

You could do it, doubt it'd be easy however I intend to find out. Best options I've found so far are;

TTS performance do a bolt on supercharger kit that you can fit yourself within a day to a lot of bikes, fuelling is handled by a power commander. Significant gains, and a fairly simple DIY build.

Holeshot racing do turbo kits as a bolt on whereby everything is supplied so you could theoreticly do it in your shed. Basic kit for most bikes would be DIY doable, however the more powerful kits & more complex bikes requiring internal engine work wouldn't be a very simple job at all.

On the subject of Turbos. I have been toying with the idea of getting a blower for my Truck.
I will have to get you to have a look at it Pete. I need to pop round anyway to return your hole saw.

Would it not be easier or better for your application to bolt on a Bini M45 blower onto the G13A engine though?

I don't know about off road 4x4 driving, rock climbing and wading etc, but assuming Binges Suzuki is really light as it appears to be, then wouldn't a simple bolt on blower for a linear performance increase and another 20-30ib/ft available over say 1/2 the rev range be better than a big TDI conversion, or are you thinking about the advantages of a an all mechanically controlled Derv for running in water etc?

Light isn't necessarily good as momentum can get you out of plenty of tricky situations. Same with having a longer wheelbase and wider axles.

And he can't take it swimming whereas a diesel will still be going for as long as the top of the snorkel is out of the water.

Big trucks and small trucks each have their own advantages and disadvantages so it doesn't really matter but I'll still continue taking the piss out of his small truck.
