Thinking £50 to £75 ballpark for Stormex (I've heard they're good) versus £9 Lidl.

Ok, you may only get one winter out of the Lidl, maybe not even that (buy 2). How many winters does the Stormex last?

Just trying to get some cost/benefit analysis Wink

FWIW the covers offered by Argos are ok (bought as needed one quick) and in my experience last about a year (spring, through winter to next spring). They tear but I have gaffer tape. Thumbs Up

I've had almost 2 years out of a £20 Oxford Aquatex...... I'm way to cheap for a stormex. Might get one of these Lidl ones as a spare can't be as bad as the cheap Kawasaki branded one I got in a sale that melted when it looked at a lukewarm end can.

Got a point Razz I can't comment on the longevity of the Stormex cause I haven't had it long. But it does a bloody good job of keeping the bike dry compared to the last cheap £20 cover I got off eBay. Water would seep through even in light rain and collect on my seat by morning.

Picked up a couple of these Lidl ones last year (assume they haven't changed much). Still going strong, see no reason to not get a second winter out of it (at least). It's not very thick, so you can get moisture condensing underneath on your bike. It is however totally huge, sure it'd go round a Goldwing or big Pan absolutely fine. The cord ties are a bit fiddly, I just use one at back and pull it tight around bike with that, but it can be a faff untangling the cord from bike as you remove the cover. Only needed to tie up front when we've had strong gales. It's never melted on exhaust and I always put cover on straight after pulling up, removing top box and chaining bike up.

Previous cover was an R&G one, apparently highly rated by Ride mag. Cost me £40, first was stolen, second lasted 12 months before the soft lining disintegrated and left my bike covered in white fluff every morning. I'd set off in a big cloud in snow, but if my visor was open I'd be choking to death on the stuff.

Not tried an Oxford one, but overall, at £9 you can't really moan much.

Sorry to sound like a stuck record from the Halfords thread, But I have 2, got a older looking 1 years ago for the scoob and I then upgraded to this newer style 2 years ago, all still cracking for battery conditioning and charging.

The Lidl cover is a strong as fook and good for a few years usage even in harsh conditions but it is a little heavy and bulky to carry about.

Good for a year, last year was very wet. I'd buy again, permeability suffers after this time. For indoors it may last a decade.

Apologies if this is a bit of a daft question, but my bike is garaged - if (I dread the day) it comes to parking it up for a period of time over the winter, is it worth bothering with a cover when it's in a perfectly dry environment?

Thanks for the heads up
Just got a cover and charger
had a similar charger for years until it eventually failed
( in fact I may have damaged it trying to start the bike when it was connected..oops!)
If this one lasts as long and I aint stoopid again its a damn good buy
The covers are usually good for a year or two.

I see Lidls also offer an attractive range of hi viz........
